[PC] DRM-free - Ultima 7 Complete $2.09 (was $9.09)/Ultima 8 Gold Edition $2.09 (was $8.09)/Ultima 9: Ascension $2.09 - GOG

180

Great prices for these RPG milestones. Yes, the graphics have aged a lot but the gameplay and the choices are still pretty much unrivalled.
Gameplay and fun is not only determined by graphics. ;-)

Ultima 8 Gold Edition: https://www.gog.com/game/ultima_8_gold_edition

Ultima 9: Ascension: https://www.gog.com/game/ultima_9_ascension

Note: Ultima 1-3 and Ultima 4-6 are also $2.09 but I did not include those as their graphics have REALLY aged.

From the website:

In the seventh installment of the Ultima series you — the Avatar — must go back to Britannia and investigate a series of strange events. Two hundred years have passed since your last visit and much has changed since then. An unknown being who calls himself the Guardian has appeared and is forcing everyone to bow to his whims. In addition magic doesn't work as it should, it seems that all of the mages have gone insane, and quiet towns are being terrorized with ritualized murders. It is unclear what is happening, but initial signs point to some kind of organization called the Fellowship. It is up to you to unravel the mystery and find out what is really going on in Britannia.

Ultima 7 is arguably one the best in the series. With enhanced graphics, sound, and controls it was a huge step forward not only for the series, but for the entire RPG genre. The level of immersion was astonishing at the time. Rich environments, wide-ranging dialog trees, and dynamic combat were all masterfully combined by a team that Lord British (Richard Garriott) led to create a game that can't be ignored by any cRPG fan.

Ultima 7 The Complete Edition includes:

  • Ultima 7: The Black Gate
  • Ultima 7: Forge of Virtue
  • Ultima 7 Part Two: Serpent Isle
  • Ultima 7 Part Two: The Silver Seed.

Timeless classic with hundreds of hours of a top-notch gaming experience.
Created by Richard Garriott (Lord British) who stated that this part "was the most masterfully executed of the Ultima series."

Enjoy!

I already have these and I've completed them. Enjoyed the entire series, even 8 and Ascension. Though all those years ago my retail Ascension came patched, so that probably helped.

    Rememeber to get Unofficial Patches:
    Ultima 7
    Ultima 8
    Ultima 9

-Edit- I just loaded Ascension because of this post and when he started speaking I was expecting the stuttering I got when he said Britannia. I'm glad it runs better, but my nostalgia misses that glitch. Also surprised I remember that since its been almost 20 years since I played it, so it must have had an impact on me.

I've discovered an all-in-one patcher, it patches all Ultima games except for 8: https://ultima1.ultimacodex.com/pixs-ultima-patcher/

Was reading up on what the patches do - bugfixes or enhancements. It looks like it's a bit of both and in some modifies the attributes and gameplay to make it more logical and 'makes sense'.

I never really finished SI, might be the time to dust it off!

        • Alot of people felt that was the best Ultima ever story wise. Me personally i cant pick between Ultima 5, 6 and 7.

Just by reading this post I hear the midi theme songs in my head. Good times.

I'm sure I already collected them in GOG but on this deal I'll have to check.

EDIT: I did, at least from Ultima IV onwards - this deal is a good cue to dust them off and replay them.

Don't forget Ultima Underworld! (Also on sale at $2.09)

  • How do these work with the newer systems / i know they use a dosbox or something. does it work alright? or is it quite fiddly?

  • I bought all of them, came up to $12 for Ultima 1- 9 and ultima underworld 1 and 2. My favourite series and games of all time. The best RPG games and ground breaking in so many ways. They still have features in them that a lot of modern games struggle to implement. Like NPC schedules. The NPCs have schedules so people who work in a inn will take lunch breaks, nap breaks, go home after work is over, come back for start of work the next morning. Go around the place closing windows if it starts raining and complaining about the rain. All just part of the npc scheduling.
