DIY Sliding Flyscreen Door

Just moved into a new house.

Looking to get a sliding flyscreen door and was quoted $300 for supply and install for H 2015mm W 1220mm.

Interested in building one myself but there does not seem to be much reference material, especially regarding the frame and roller.

Plenty of reference to how to make a flyscreen for windows but I am quite sure this is not the same.

Am I better of just paying someone to supply and install?

Pay someone, buy the time you buy the materials and tools, you’ll have spent that anyway.

And it will likely not be very good either if it's their first ever attempt.

$300! I wouldn't get out of bed to even look at it for that price.

In saying that, if its just a replacement and the rails are already there. Just contact some sliding door manufactures.

  • 300 is a bargain and I would jump on that offer. I've had quotes for my doors done (which are Admittedly for much much wider sliding doors) and it's extremely expensive, mainly because most ppl aren't interested in doing fly screen mesh anymore

So we just got something similar like this from bunnings

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/pillar-products-120-x-200cm-blac…

Ours is much wider, but it was relatively cheap and easy to install. You can get significantly cheaper ones from reject shop but we find they don't last anywhere near as long. Note that ours required some drilling of screws to the top, the lesser durable ones are just Velcro along the top.

So I guess my point is, if it were me I'd be happy to pay the 300. I don't think ull be saving a lot by DIY but if you really want to go cheap, these ones are an option.
