  • Interesting, is this for the set? Seems like I found the same mic for half? I might be missing something, I'm curious about this, have thought of getting a mic for a while

Have a look lol, OPs comes with a sound card (post amp)

      • Do I need this sound card if my motherboard on board sound card is already good enough?

        • Varies on use case, if you’re in the realm of professional podcasting yes amp matters.

If you’re just bumming around in discord with the boys, no.

For clarity, if you’re asking if you need this, then similarly the answer is no, if you’re asking how my voice can be amplified, or changed to be clearer, this is your answer. Should be pretty easy to work out what side of the fence you’re on :)

    • Yep, for the V8X package.
The V9X PRO Package looks tempting for an extra $15…but isn't that always the way.
Seems the 9 has Bluetooth, too.
      Hmm, anyone with hands-on experience?

    Sound quality not that great.
I also have the Yeti Nano, that sounds better.
The arm is good. I might look for some attachment to attach the yeti to the arm.

Do you own it or just wanna brag about the Yeti?

      • +3

I have this (BM800) and have tested it against the Yeti.
I also have the Razer Seiren but haven't tested it yet.
I have have more expensive ones, but I don't want to brag.

if you think the Yeti series is the cream of the crop, you have a lot to learn

        • +2

It’s no where near the top and is overpriced for what it does.
I am just saying Yeti is better than this item.

          • @congo: What's better than a Yeti? Care to share or brag?

            • @technogear: There's a large selection of microphones (even cheaper than a yeti!) that are better for normal use than a yeti, considering the yeti has 3 capsules, and in regular use you'll only be using 1.

You can pick up a decent microphone for half the price with a single, better capsule.

            • @technogear: Brag? Nah don’t have time for that.

    • I just checked the price and damn that Yeti is expensive

    • you're comparing apples and oranges - get negged :)

I have this set but without the sound card. The sound quality was significantly better than any non-purpose built microphone such an 80 dollar headset or earphone mics.
Yes Yeti nano will be better… but it's 2x+ the price and without any accessories. The % improvement to me is still less than the improvement from headsets to this.

I do recommend this if you're just looking for a big step up in audio quality from the ones on headsets etc. Professional usage obviously should go for bigger bucks.

Still going strong after 3 years of regular use. The USB cable broke a while back but I stole one from an old printer.

I didn't buy this exact set but I did get the BM800 without the DAC (or whatever that box is) but the other accessories look identical. The arm is loud when it is moved and the springs ring for a long time when bumped. The screws stripped after using them only a couple of times and the clamp was quite damaging to my desk so I used paper as a buffer between the desk and clamp. It works but I'm looking into replacing the arm after a year or so of use, if that helps anyone.

It does help actually because I was thinking it was an ok-ish price for a mic+boom arm, but it sounds like even the boom arm is poor quality.

Extremely helpful thank you! Will be avoiding, sounds like you get what you pay for here.

    • would you recommend something else in similar budget?

      • I'm not sure. I think in the audio space you get what you pay for

I have this mic and it can be pretty good.
However this is a condenser microphone, and to work well it needs phantom voltage. Therefore to get the best out of it you should have an audio interface (Like a Scarlett or Behringer). It should work with a 3.5mm jack, but it won't be getting the power it needs making it quieter and possibly bring up the noise floor. The soundboard doesn't look like it supplies phantom voltage but may do a better job than your computer jack.

There are tonnes of videos about the BM-800 so take a look at them to see how they compare with better mics. For just the microphone and a couple accessories (no external soundcard) they can go for $15-30 on ebay.

  • Usually take 2 months for delivery and my last lot I believe was left by aust post to the wrong address. I have contacted the seller which they did not help. Aliexpress refused to refund. I ve lost 25 bucks as a result. I won't be shopping there unless it is a few dollars and I am not in a hurry to receive it.

    • I've made 801 orders with Aliex. I've had 1 item that said delivered, but was not. Aliex gave me my money back. Also most parcels are coming in weeks if you choose ali standard shipping. I just ordered 3 items with 30-50 day shipping on Dec 17th. It just arrived in my letter box today - Just 22 days including christmas and new years. Early in covid it was terrible. Pretty much back to normal now.
