Good if you are an ex-taxi driver. Raul or Rahul…?

  • High Yield BMW M Ute

What do you want to do with it - Dual cab or single? Diesel or petrol? Business or private use? What do you want to tow/carry? Manual or Auto?

They are mostly the same with different minor annoyances.

The sub $30k single cabs are cheap commercial unit designed for cheap bosses to be supplied to very low level employees.

Above that, most brands have the utility trim, the semi premium trim then the premium trim. The 'sports' trim is more of a luxury trim with bloke friendly branding. Think boss with too much money.

Work out want you want to do with your ute and what comforts you want. If maximum bed length is your biggest priority, then you need a single cab. If you also want a factory touch screen, you would need a single cab in semi premium or above trim. Many brands don't sell that, which narrows down your choices. Another limited choice example is a coil sprung duel cab.

    Things to remember:

    • There is usually an after market solution for anything the dealer offers. It's normally better and cheaper to compete with the convenience of dealer fit.
    • Most alloy bars buckle when hitting a roo (if that is a concern).
    • Just because one dealer or brand won't do something for you dosen't mean they all wont. Ring around. And if one say's yes, don't tell the one that said no (for example, some brands with some dealers can swap a tub for a tray at very little cost, most can't).
    • After market accessories can only affect the warranty for the part of the ute they change. An aftermarket bull bar won't void the warranty on the fuel cap. But suspension lifts could affect mounting points on the body, the drive shafts (which could be too short) and the transmission but most likely not the engine. You would instead have those parts warrantied by the after market installer (which would be more limited than a manufacturer warranty as the parts are far cheaper).
    • Payload. Passengers, fuel and luggage counts as payload. If towing, the ball weight counts as payload. If important, take 200kg off the payload instantly for fuel, driver and their stuff. Isuzu are very strict about clients doing a payload calculator. Other brands have them, but they are usually skipped.

tl;dr: Work out use then wants. Your budget is tight but you should be able to buy want you want in a 4x2 with it.

Buy a 1yo 4x4 ute if you can

Resale on a 4x2 will plummet. No one really wants them unless they have to. 4x4s on the other hand will always have a good market

  • C63 AMG or go home.

  • Single cab I gather…
Depending on what you want to do with it. google bent ute chassis.. Plenty (not all, but more than I'd be willing to risk going bush) of modern ones used to tow/carry large loads bend.

the overhang from axle to end of towbar, towing loads and lever effect can ruin your day

More info needed. Different utes for different purposes.

Diesel, petrol, auto, manual? City deliveries or country kms? Petrol auto for city. Diesel for country.

How long do you plan to own it? 2wd is cheaper to buy, but resale sucks.

What are you hauling? Occasional hardware/furniture, everyday 1 tonne of tools or towing 3 tonne?

Passengers or only driver? Single, extra cab dual cab? Virtually no secure storage in a single cab unless tool boxes added.

    Tray or tub?
