Check you bank cards, some offer complimentary product insurance and extended warranty. 129 seems too high anyway.

At fault product insurance included with bank products?

      129 seems too high anyway.

DJI Care offers accidental damage protection though, as long as you can retrieve your drone (even in pieces) and mail it back to them they will replace it (at a small fee of $149 compared to a new unit which is $1K+)

For experienced drone pilots, you won't need it.
      It's a must for novice/first-time drone owners.

      • If you can't recover the drone (if you crash it in the ocean for example) Care Refresh has you covered.

That's not what the reviewers on amazon are saying.
          Terms:
The losses, expenses, and liabilities listed below are not covered by the replacement service:
          1) The part is not covered by the replacement service.
          2) Damage to a non-DJI product.
          3) Damage caused by using your DJI product together with a non-DJI product or third-party accessory/software that is not authorized by DJI.
          4) Some or all of the DJI product’s parts that are covered by the replacement service are lost.
          5) Some or all of the DJI product’s parts that are covered by the replacement service have been stolen, looted, or discarded.
          6) Damage to accessories and/or the gimbal caused by unauthorized repair.
          7) Damage to the DJI product caused by installation, usage, or operation not in accordance with the user manual’s recommendations.
          8) Damage to the DJI product caused by using the product to engage in illegal activities.
          9) Direct or indirect loss caused by natural disaster, war, military action, riot, coup, terrorist activities, etc.
          10) Technical enhancements or performance improvements for DJI product provided at an extra fee.
          11) Indirect loss and/or anticipated profit in any form.
          12) Personal injury and/or property loss to the customer or any other people caused by the DJI product.
          13) Any litigation, arbitration and/or any other legal fees relating to replacement service.

        • No it doesn't unfortunately :( for care refresh you must produce the drone for replacement because I assume they refurbish it

Wish they could offer a lost option id be happy to pay more.. bird strikes concern me

    • edit

    • It's good to have the piece of mind that DJI will provide an Express Option. You don't know how long it'll take with other warranty options.

  • Does this have to be purchased before drone activation?

4、Under what conditions can I purchase DJI Care Refresh?
DJI Care Refresh can be bound to your DJI product when it meets one of the following criteria:
      · Brand new and un-activated product;
      · Aircraft or gimbal activated within the last 48 hours;
      · Handheld device activated within the last 30 days;
      · Aircraft approved via video verification.

5、My product has been activated longer than the period that is available for purchasing DJI Care Refresh. Can I still purchase DJI Care Refresh?
You can apply for video verification. After the verification is passed and you receive a purchasing notice, you can purchase DJI Care Refresh within 72 hours after you receive the notice.

Does anybody know about the region coverage cause apparently your only covered for the region you select?

eg: if you select Australia but crash it on holiday in Europe then your not covered?

Plus you have to send the whole thing back so gps records will be stored on it for them to know which region you crashed in.

  • Past my first 2dji drones I haven't purchased it since, never had to use it to claim either but gives good piece of mind for the first time flyers or people who fly low risky increasing chance of collision etc

  • Experienced pilot here but just used it for the first time a week ago. First ever time I have crashed a drone. Trying to get a fast tracking shot of a vehicle I just slightly nicked a tree branch I didn't see which brought it all crashing down. Camera gimbal broken off, all propellers broken, battery broken, very scraped up underneath.

Sent it back and just waiting on the replacement to arrive. So far no problems. Just is like an insurance basically. Some people get it some don't. It does however give me a lot more piece of mind to get some footage I otherwise wouldn't try to get if I was going to have a fork out 1000 or more for a replacement.

    • Honest question. Are you a professional photographer/videographer by any chance and have insurance for your gear?

  • Surely the ACL covers you for 12 months anyway?

    • Not if you deliberately smash it against a wall/bump against a tree (will happen to new drone users).

This is "Accidental Damage Protection" coverage, it's different to the standard "your product should work out-of-the-box" coverage.

Think of this as Comprehensive Insurance for a Mavic Air 2.

      • -1

I thought the Air 2 had collision avoidance built-in? If it broke from a collision, the ACL would cover that.

        • +1

I thought the Air 2 had collision avoidance built-in? If it broke from a collision, the ACL would cover that.

Pretty sure there's sports mode on the Air 2 (I have the original Mavic).

In sports mode, obstacle collision sensors are turned OFF (user acknowledgement required) and you can access the full speed of your mavic air.

          Accidents happen there.

My Mavic can reach 60km h/r, there are front obstacle sensors but they are disabled in sports mode.

Mavic Air 2 has front sensors, it doesn't have side sensors, or sensors on the top.

          It doesn't claim to either.

Drones can fly sideways, up and down

You can smash a drone when flying up straight into branches or sideways into a tree.

You must be one hell of a Karen to invoke ACL in that situation and blame the drone for crashing due to user fault

        • edit

  • I know that AON insurance offers insurance for drones as part of their professional photographic equipment tools. I'm wondering if this might be better value for a professional instead of Care Refresh?

Do not buy unless you don't plan to update the software

US commerce department added DJI to a list of sanctioned Chinese companies

    https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/12/18/us-adds-chinese-drone-co…

    https://www.ft.com/content/5a610e59-1e51-4bb2-9624-410cb8034…

US government can stop licensing DJI to use GPS (which is a US technology)

Similar to Huawei, it could be no more update as long as it involves US export technology.

US company needs to get permit to export/license any US technologies to DJI

DJI products can be flooding in market in next few months

BTW, I am waiting for the comments from CCP agents.

    • US government can stop licensing DJI to use GPS (which is a US technology)

Last time I checked, my Mavic uses GLONASS as well?

Do not buy unless you don't plan to update the software

My DJI Mavic Pro (1) flies absolutely fine without any software update.. it's not a smartphone.
It's a ready-to-use product out of the box without further updates.

US company needs to get permit to export/license any US technologies to DJI

That has always been the case for US companies to be careful about exporting ANYTHING to restricted countries.

BTW, I am waiting for the comments from CCP agents.

Not a CCP agent, but one of the uyghur camps drone footage came from a DJI drone (you can recognise the interface..)

DJI is probably one of the only genuine Chinese companies that didn't rip off technology from an existing company

  • My only concern with this is that its sold by Amazon UK (technically) and DJI states on their website that the Refresh is honored in its original purchase country… (UK?)

Edit: It looks like it used to be Australia based reseller, now its amazon UK
