Spotted this whilst researching a new phone for my daughter. Didn't end up getting it as it appears locked to Optus and I need a phone to use with a Kogan voucher. Looks to be a good price if you don't need to unlock away from Optus.

Suggestions for alternative options with similar battery/memory with NFC appreciated.

Make sure you adjust your expectations on the phone if you do decide to get it, as there is a world of difference in between a $149 ($200) budget phone and an $800-$1000 phone.

      • Yeah exactly. Considering how often people replace their phone, I don't understand what the attraction is, why we don't buy second hand. My phone is about 6 years old with Android 7 but everything still works and all apps still install. (I believe anything 5.1 or above still does.) It was a $1300 phone and today there's still a few new ones selling for about $150. It has poor battery life so I wouldn't recommend it, but my point is why don't we buy one that's up to a couple of years old. It will be a few or several hundred $ cheaper, battery probably still ok or cheap to replace if it's not, processor probably faster than a new $150 phone, same or more memory, and an OS that will be supported for years (at least 6 years going by my experience to date) and that's without any futher Android upgrades (which new phones will only give maybe 2 or 3 updates anyway). The only reason I keep coming up with why I want a new phone is because we're like those birds that take useless shiny things back to their nest… we must like new toys. But then I have to tell myself 3 months from now it won't be new, will have lost its 'shine', but will still be slower/less RAM/etc than some second hand Samsung etc would have been.

        • Which phone is this?

  • A pity about the Optus lock.

    • $210 unlocked on eBay. Otherwise what’s an unlock code cost?

      • Apparently it's $80 but that drops down to $25 after 6 months of use, or free after $80 worth of recharge.

  • Just discovered it doesn't have a gyroscope sensor (it has a gyro meter?), so can't be used for VR…

      VR

is that still a thing, i assumed google and samsung killed it.

If you are on Vodafone, this might be an alternative (LG Australia shows it has NFC)
