TV Recommendations Please! 55” and $1k Budget

Hi everyone,

Wondering if you can help me find a decent 55” tv for around $1k?

I currently have an old LG 47” LED and it’s massively overdue an upgrade. I have a Sonos Beam & two Sonos Play 1’s so will use those for sound.

I was looking into the LG CX OLED series but I’m not sure if it’s worth the extra money? Happy to revisit that if you all disagree. I read somewhere that Visio have reasonably priced OLEDs but I can’t seem to find if they’re stocked here in Australia.

I’ve always been a big LG fan, but happy to explore other brands if they offer more value.

Thanks very much!

  • In the same boat as yourself, looking at the Samsung TU8000 55"

  • I have a TCL "55" QUHD with built in soundbar which I payed under $1000 for a few years ago. Tv seems to be great, good picture and the soundbar quality is great. Only cons are the TV takes 40 seconds to turn on and quite often the streaming services crash and TV reboots (mostly Disney+, Netflix sometimes and Binge never has crashed). I think maybe the built in Chromecast has issues so i mostly use Xbox to stream now. The TV without soundbar I found for $870. Its model number is 55P715. My model number is 55C6US if that helps :)
(I know nothing about TV's specs so this might not be helpful but for me it seems like a great little budget TV, in store the picture looked much better than the other budget TVs)

    • My old TCL was a 'smart' dumb tv and took ages. The new C715 I ended up with is android and boots pretty quickly, a few seconds from cold, and is QLED which isn't bad to look at (occasionally appears slightly oversaturated pinks but I haven't adjusted it from stock either so my fault there!

I just picked up a 65" eko QLED tv from bigw for $699
    Android tv
    Good on time
    Good remote responce.
    Good menu responce
    Good picture
Tbh for $699 Im pretty happy with it. Way better than the smaller $1600 tv I got a few years ago.

Imo If they keep the RnD up on tvs its almost better to buy a cheaper one every few years.
Buy a good one for a few thousand and its out of date in a year or 2 anyway.

55 is a pretty small TV these days unless you are limited by space.

  • Samsung S60 is pretty good. Airplay2, almost all the apps (except Kayo). Good blacks, viewing angles reasonable

I have two sony android tv's, bought the 2nd one in march last year given how good the first one was. They work great, look great and would highly recommend. Although other android TVs might work just as well, the OS is one of the best drawcards. My 55inch sony android tv is now 4 years old and has all the up to date software and new streaming apps form google store that didn't exist at the time (such as kayo and disney plus).

In comparison, my parents LG Smart TV which is only a year older and cant get any new apps due to the outdated and antiquated OS.
