Coles (Optus) Sim Card Return/Refund

Hi,

I bought the coles Simcard to use after 5 months. I realized that on the back of the sim card it says I have to use/active within 30 days. Now, I trying to return to coles but coles staff says the system is not allowing it.
Any idea what should I do?

  • There is no expiry date. It has 365 days once activated.
    It says Activate within 30 days or by the date advertised on a promotion whichever is earliest.

    • There should be one, I am looking at an Optus Sim starter kit right now and on the back, bottom left there's something that says

      Expires on xx.xx.xx

      (where xx is a number/date)

      I've activated sims from here 30+ days after purchase without issues.
      If there was a promo going on when you purchased it, you (most likely) wouldn't be able to receive those benefits but should be for any current ones when activating.

  • Oh, I see. there is no promo going. It was $20 off from coles at $99 down from $120.
    No, I haven't activated the sim yet. I am using a Boost card, and I want to keep the same number.

  • You can call Customer Care on 1800 061 562. You'd have a better chance of getting a resolution through there. If approved, you'll probably have to go in-store to get the refund.

  • I called Coles mobile service. They said if I activated it after 30 days, it may not work. The guy didn't tell me what would happen. He just said it may not work.

  • I bought coles 365 day starter kit too and is in drawer from 2 months. I plan to activate it later this month.
    From coles FAQ's

    "You need to activate your SIM card within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion in order to take advantage of advertised inclusions."

    I called the customer care and I was told that I can activate it in late January but the inclusions (GB's+extra) I will receive whatever is applicable at that time.

    Hopefully you should also be able to use it later, if you plan.
