Suggestions on Controlling Spiders on Plants/Hedges

Hi OZB community

I am having an issue with spiders and plenty of webs on my lilly pilly plants and Japanese box hedge mainly and need a suggestion on what to use or how to manage this?

I am worried about using something that would damage the plants so appreciate any suggestions/feedback

Thank you :)

Benny

  • I let insects and spiders etc. just live, but you could have a look at:
    https://www.yates.com.au/search-results/?search=spider

  • Likely to be spider mites…..

    • get some real spiders to control these lol

Spiders are good. They don't eat plants, they eat the bugs that eat your plants. If you get rid of them the bugs can run riot and hurt your plants

  • Just clean out the webs if they get to be a bother else let the spiders live as they control pests.

  • I normally just ignore them but if the web build up gets out of hand I give the plants a quick wipe with a straw broom.

It collects the old webs without harming the spiders or plants and any spiders still living on the plants spin new webs.

  • Ok thanks for the advice, the actual spiders don't worry me. The webs just make the plants look neglected, it is really bad! I will try the straw broom trick.

It is only on the plants that I hedge with a trimmer so it is like creating a canopy for the spiders to make a home in.
