New Home Owner. Looking for Tools

I really don't need big tools like saws and drills just want some basic stuff like screwdrivers so I can get into my electronics etc. What is a good value screwdriver set that should do the job for almost every job? Also while I'm here what are some must have tools that I'm overlooking?

Thanks for any advice I really dunno what I'm doing.

    so I can get into my electronics etc.

    I really dunno what I'm doing.

    Well that's worrying.

    For basic home use, IKEA have 2 tool kits, one manual and one comes with a powered screwdriver/drill that's very handy. Should be majority of daily use.

    Are you looking for small electronics or large? For electronics the ones I like personally (each to their own of course) are:
    * Xiaomi Mi x Wiha Precision Screwdriver
    * XIAOMI Wowstick Cordless Power Screwdriver

    Apparently some people like the ifixit kit, though I don't know if thats just because they advertise a lot
    * Linus comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo_vwhunO7I

    Not too sure for larger ones but my parents place has a drill/screwdriver electronic set, they are an off brand one but I absolutely love them. Used it for taking off door hinges to fix the doors and put together cupboards/tables I've bought.

    New Home Owner
    basic stuff like screwdrivers so I can get into my electronics etc.

    I don’t think there are any correlation…

    When you say electronics are you look at fittings that you’ll have in a home? More specifically stuff you now own vs renting. Eg garage door opener, door bell, air con, dishwasher.

    Or hobbies you’ll get into because you now have your own home?

    Thanks for any advice I really dunno what I'm doing.

    Are you Tim from Home improvement ?

  • If you are a homeowner you need at least a drill, hammer and some kind of saw.

    so I can get into my electronics

    What kind of electronics are you talking about?

    Toilet brush. Toilet paper. Each sold separately.

    Oh, you don't mean stools.

  • Borrow as much as you can!
    The amount of tools you will gather for one off use is incredible

    I've combined my tool kit with a friends and we now have saved $$ by sharing ;)

  • What electronics are you talking about? Very confusing post.

    Confused if you want to know what tools to keep around the house or if you are after tools for electronics?

    Mainstay screwdrivers: https://www.bunnings.com.au/stanley-16-piece-cushion-grip-sc…
    Precision screwdrivers: https://www.bunnings.com.au/trojan-26-piece-precision-screwd…

    Tools that get used regularly:
    * Screwdrivers
    * Hammer (16oz - easy to handle)
    * Tape measure
    * Duct tape
    * Adjustable wrench
    * Retractable knife of some sort
    * Needle nose pliers
    * Torch

    • Plus multi grips/pliers.

  • This may be overkill, but I own 2 of these

    I figure by the time I gradually accumulate all the individual tools I'll need for one kit, I probably could've just bought one of the tools bags twice over.

    The good thing is, you can add any missing tools/accessories to the bag to suit your needs (eg. precision screwdriver kit, side cutters, measuring tape, spirit level) from Bunnings pretty inexpensively, and you can conveniently take the entire lot with you wherever you go.

  • Got a acrylic handle Stanley screw driver set, works for me at $20.

  • Buy a basic kit like ozwog05 suggests. It’ll cover most stuff. Then, replace with quality tools when something fails - except if you think you will be a regular user of the tools. If you pan to be using them regularly it might be worth paying a bit extra for some quality tools.

  • Something like this would have everything you should need to get you out of trouble. May not be the best for everyday use but will be enough for most things if you don't really have much of an idea of what you're doing anyway.

    But if you want to hang pictures on the wall and do stuff that would be related to owning a new home, then you probably want a drill of some sort. As per most of the comments, I'm not sure what the "new home owner" part has to do with wanting tools to get in to electronics or what you want the tools for if that's the case.
