I'm planning to get a new laptop as my current laptop is shagged and did some research and now kinda torn between these two laptops
HP Envy X360 Ryzen 7 - can get this for $1749 using a student discount.
Main use: General browsing/home use + multiple VMs or might dual boot with Ubuntu.
Any suggestion/recommendation will be terrific!

I've seen great results with their new M1 Chips, however, it's arm-based and upgrades are very limited.
If I were you, with that kind of budget for a non-gaming laptop just for around the house, I'd get a Thinkpad. Unparalleled longevity, built for DIY maintenance and easy upgrading, the best laptop keyboards hands down, and a massive community to help with upgrades and troubleshooting (check out the /r/thinkpad subreddit). Personally I'd go for the T14 with AMD CPU, but if you need the 15"+ screen, they have options. I'd recommend making an education store account and having a look around: https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/education/ — they also have a 7% discount running at the moment which stacks with the Education discount (should automatically get offered it when you're viewing your cart, but if not, PM me and I can give you the code)
Yeah, couldn't find any good review for the Dell Inspiron 7506 as well.

Do the new MacBooks support the VMs you need yet? I know it'll have to emulate them but it'd be worth looking into.
