PS5 and XSX/S owners - what are you playing?

With all the demands for the new gen consoles, namely the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, for you owners out there, what games are you playing? As they are quite new, there aren't many titles out there right?

Now I am aware that many PS4 and Xbox One X Games are compatible and playable on the new gen, but, just feeling bit absurd that you got a new console just to play the games of the previous gen consoles (especially if you've got the previous gen too). I know as time goes forward that'll improve. For now, when the demand for is so high and while still aren't many exclusive new gen games yet (and wouldn't it be wiser to not jump in and enjoy the games on the PS4/XBOX for now and let market cool, if what you'll be playing is the same), what are you playing?

If you don't (yet) own one, what are you planning to play?

Most likely same thing as PS4 and Xbox One owners.

    • Not necessarily as many of the 'PS4' games are upgraded on the PS5 with higher resolution and/or framerates. Also added haptics and adaptive triggers on some. So it's definitely not the same experience.

Having said that, this past winter break I have gone through Astro's Playroom, Bugsnax, Watch Dogs Legion, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Death Stranding, Miles Morales, Cyberpunk 2077 & now onto Assassins Creed Valhalla.

      • Back in my day we didn't need high resolution, frame rates and haptics to have a fun game.

        • Still don't. Hence the Switch is outselling everything else currently

  • As a massive fan of strategy/RTS games, I just picked up a PS4 game that was on sale at EB Games for $10 called desperados 3. Absolutely in love with this game. Been playing the heck out of it. Absolute bargain as well considering the entertainment value Iā€™m getting out of it.

Not a next gen game but runs OK on ps5. Hope a next Gen patch comes out for it but not holding my breath for it considering the relatively small developer.

    • Wreckfest - PS4 (Significantly faster load times)
    • Cyberpunk - PS4
    • Valhalla - PS5

    Kids play:

    • Astro's Playroom - PS5
    • Cars (McQueen) - PS4
    • Bugsnax - PS5
  • I held off playing Gears & Doom campaigns on last gen. Playing on my Series S (yeah I know, not graphically better) and loving it. The quick loading screens and higher FPS really enhances the experience.

  • Playing Destiny 2 on 120fps (1080p)
The load times on 3 other older ps4 games are amazing, just love it. That's what annoyed me about previous gen, love me a good ssd.

This is why I sold my Xbone. Couldn't deal with the load times and went back to playing on the 360 and Wii U. Might invest in the new generation now they've finally addressed this.

  • Infamous: Second Son (PS4v on the PS5) - PS+
    Maneater - PS+

Have been loving Sackboy, but we're close to clocking it and my missus is finding it a little too difficult lol (she's not much of a gamer)

    And Warzone, sparingly.

  • At first:

    Spider-man: Miles Morales
    Demon's Souls

Now on to the backlog starting with Ghost of Tsushima (much better performance over last gen consoles).

  • Have finished a lot of games already. Currently playing Demons Souls, Godfall, and Immortals.

I got a new console to play old games at the best possible frame rate and quality. To me it's like updating your PC graphics card - sure you can play the old way just fine, but after a while you become aware of the substantial power gap between what you had and the new machine.

I rejoined console gaming with the XB1X after about 15 years break - my wife had an XB360 that I barely touched, and I previously had a Wii. Joining at XB1X was transformative for me, with the quality of games and esp. graphics like RDR2. I also appreciated the way the XB1X improved back-compat games like RDR1.

Ultimately I could not handle the idea of playing a game on anything less than the best available console, so I rang around for an XBSX. And unlike graphics cards, you only have to commit once and the machine will not be overtaken for at least 3-4 years.

I completed Jedi Fallen Order on XB1X, then booted it up when I got my XBSX - much improved experience in performance mode. As mentioned by others load times are a fraction of what they used to be. I also tested RDR2 - still loads for a while but probably 30% of the time on XB1X, maybe 30 sec vs 90 sec. I'm playing Outer Wilds right now and it loads in about 5 seconds. Kids' LEGO games load in an instant.

And that's not even taking account Quick Resume, which is allowing our family to jump in and out of games basically instantaneously. It's not flawless - if the kids swap through enough games I eventually get kicked out of my QR states, but it's still a lot that can store at once. I'd guess probably 6 on average.

So back to OP - my upcoming list is to complete Outer Wilds, then probably start Hitman II, which by accounts has improved performance. After that I expect Control Ultimate to finally arrive, as I purchased it at $29 pre Xmas and have been waiting for the update. I don't like that they are charging for the Control update but I never owned the original Control - I'm in two minds as I probably underestimate the amount of work to upgrade a game for new hardware.

    Outer Wilds
    Hitman II
    Control Ultimate
    Gears 5
    God of War - I own a PS4 Pro

    • Pretty much this: got a series X in December, pretty much rotating between NBA 2k21 (last gen), wreckfest and a few game pass games.

Quick resume for the kids on the lego games is brilliant as is the load time benefits.

  • So far on PS5 I've finished Demon's Souls and Spiderman.

Right now playing maneater and bugsnax

  • Watchdogs Legion PS5 and Spider-man Remastered

  • I got my series X the other day and was blown away by how much better Forza Horizon 4 looked with the better frame rates.

However I was impatient and bought cyberpunk 2077 on stadia and so have been playing that šŸ˜…

  • On PS5 - Assassin's Creed: Valhalla & Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk crashes quite a bit, but it's otherwise enjoyable. I am looking forward to them fixing this up and it being polished perhaps 6 months from now.

Probably won't get the XBOX this generation. Barely used the Xbox One S.

  • in this order since purchase: Infamous second son, saints row the third, Unchartered 4 a thief's end, just cause 4 and currently playing Detroit become human. My last console was a ps3, so just catching up on older games and psplus freebies till something else tickles my fancy. Favourite so far is Unchartered. its pretty fun.

  • I did finish the new watchdogs before I realised it wasn't playing on the ps5 enhancements. I also play a little of fifa 21. But in the past 2 weeks I've only used it to watch a 4k bluray

  • Ripping into Valhalla and do play FIFA 21 competitively so that as well..

Last few weekends have been spent watching 4k blu-rays though..

I am super excited for Outriders though, which has sadly been delayed :(

    • I wonder if CyberPunk would've convinced a lot of people to rather pick delay and polish the game, than release and buggy and refund lol

      • I was never excited or hyped for it so never really affected me.. I have enjoyed watching people whine about it though!

  • Xbox SX - AC Valhalla & Division 2 …. but I really need to try some other games out , will have to try some of the other games played by others in comments

  • Xbox Series X - Apex Legends, AC Valhalla, Fortnite (son)

PS5 - Horizon Dawn Zero, Fall Guys, Rogue Company

  • XBox Series S

Just finished playing through Dark Souls 2 and 3 with a mate of mine.
He's using my XBox One S

I'm playing through Hitman 1 and 2 and the Touryst solo.

  • Xbox Series X
Flipping through a few different games since getting by XSX 2 weeks ago.
AC Valhalla, Forza Horizon 4, Halo Infinite multiplayer beta
