Deadline to Cancel a QFF Booking

Does anyone know the deadline to cancel a Qantas frequent flyer booking? I've looked everywhere on their website and have been on hold to them for 90 minutes trying to find out over the phone…

Comments

  • 2 minutes of googling returned this, bit less than 90 minutes on the phone

    https://www.qantas.com/au/en/travel-info/travel-updates/coro…

    • Nowhere on that page mentions QFF bookings

      • Your QFF booking will be either of the fair types, you just paid in frequent flyer points instead.
Will be on your itinerary/booking sheet as to the type of fair you've chosen.

        • It's an economy domestic (not flex) booking. The page you gave says they are non refundable. They are refundable if you use frequent flyer points. However I don't know if that is up to departure, 24 hours before departure, before check-in opens etc

@benjamin: So you've booked a Red-E deal then (if not a flex), so no refunds are offered in that case as it's the cheapest option.

            • @Drakesy: Again, no. They are refundable if you book with Frequent Flyers.

Read here if you don't believe me https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/member-offers/fl…

              • @benjamin: Hmm
                The plot thickens

@benjamin: From that page, it seems clear - you can cancel upto 31 March 2021 for flights upto a year away. Doesn't matter when the flight departure is - you can cancel for free upto 31 March 2021. From 1 April 2021; you will lose the points.

One question though, did you book Classic Flight Reward or use points+pay sort of model to purchase a flight. The policy could be different for points+pay.

                • @MrHyde: Classic Flight Reward, not points plus pay

        • That is simply untrue. The page you’ve linked to only displays fares purchased with cash. The OP stated QFF bookings, and unless OP had selected Points + Pay, those fares would be under a complete seperate gate condition.

  • Wouldn't this information be listed at the time of choosing your fare?

    • no. All it says is

"If your booking contains only Classic Flight Reward, then the following conditions apply:
Up to 24 hours before departure of the first flight:
The following changes are permitted up to 24 hours before departure of the first flight in your booking:
      * change to name (only for flights with a Qantas (QF) flight number on the ticket that are operated by Qantas)
      * change to class of travel
      * change to any segment routing (including departure, stopover or destination cities) or airline

Up to the commencement of travel for each flight:
The following changes are permitted up to the commencement of travel of each flight in your booking*:
      *change of flight number
      *change to date of travel"

      i.e. nothing about cancellations

Unsure if it's changed in the last 9 months, we had booked Emirates one way to europe using Qantas FF points through the qantas website. Cancelled it 36 hours before departure at the start of March 2020, got all taxes refunded, and all points except for 5000 points each. If you booked online, get back into your account, find the booking, and see if there's a modify/cancel option associated with your booking - it will have relevant info there.

    • I have the button, just don't know when it will disappear! I gave up the call after 2.5 hours waiting

      • Click the button and you’ll get more info on the next screen and more options to confirm the cancellation.

Anytime before departure is fine but allow for any website glitches or that dreaded 4 hour hold time on the phone.

    • Wow. Its four hours now? I couldn't cope with the hold music after only 2.5 hours

  • When you use Qantas Points to book a Classic Flight Reward seat on any Qantas or Jetstar flight, you'll be able to change the date or cancel your booking, free of charge until 31 March 2021.^ That's for Classic Reward bookings for travel up to a year away.
