Samsung UHD, 4K, 55" Q60 (QLED) TV $994 (In-Store Only) @ The Good Guys

210

$994 for a Samsung 55" Q60 4K UHD Smart QLED TV (QA55Q60RAWXXY model).

It's been cheaper, but it's not on sale as far as I know, so you can try to haggle for a better price in store.

Sub $1,000 55" QLED from Samsung is a decent deal imho.

    2019 model

    • Yep q60R not T

  • So confused reading the specs. What Hz is it? Some places say 100/120hz, some say 200Hz, wtf?

    • Also can't tell if it has HDMI 2.1 to even support 4k 120hz

I found a review on ratings (great TV review site) https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q60-q60r-qled (but I found their ratings are very strict, with only a few top of the line TVs getting very high marks).

Just keep in mind that US and AU models can vary greatly (the models in the US can correspond to a different model in AU for example).

I'm not even sure I found the equivalent US model.

I think the best place for specs would be the Australian Samsung website, but it's too late for me to go looking for it now.

    • If you go to the AU website, it says it has a 200 Hz motion rate on the Specs tab https://www.samsung.com/au/tvs/qled-tv/q60r-55-inch-qled-4k-…

But I don't think it applies to 4K gaming via HDMI 2.1 (here from FAQs):

      https://www.samsung.com/au/support/tv-audio-video/gaming-wit…

Having said that, I have had a 50" 6100 model for a year or two, and it still blows my mind when watching good source 4K content.

But this one is a budget QLED model (same as my 6100 non QLED model) so I wouldn't expect top Specs.

      • Yeah so the second link says even the Q60T (which is the better one right??) Doesn't even do 4k 120fps. The Q60R isn't even included in the table at all. So wtf is the point of 200Hz and HDMI if it can't do that?

Monitor specs are much more straightforward. Weird.

        • If you look at the table at the bottom of the second link, it will tell you which HDMI 2.1 features are available on which models.

From memory, to get 120 Hz at 4K, you'd need at least a Q70T, Q90R or Q900R, or better.

But that's a pretty high spec for a TV, and mostly needed for gaming.

From memory, normal 4K TV signal is around 30 Hz for watching TV (but I could be wrong here, I know PAL analogue standard was 30 Hz, not sure what the equivalent digital standard is in AU)

    • It's probably 60hz, could be 100hz. 200hz is motion rate. It's fake refresh rate to push the number higher. It's just "smooth motion". It gives it the soap opera effect and since it's not hdmi 2.1, even it with was you couldn't use it.

Given it's last years, you're probably buying a repack or display model. Can't imagine there'd be a heap of new stock around. Also, looks better than this year's q60 if you're trying to compare

Yeah it's basically this year's Q70. Samsung have been dropping the models by one for the last two years. So the specs from last years Q8 is almost the same as this year's Q9. It's 120Hz panel but only up to 1440p, 4K @ 60Hz. 100Hz is the same as 120, it's only for TV broadcasts in Australia that it's limited to 100 because we use 50fps while USA has 30fps so it has to be a number divisible by those metrics. HDMI, USB, Gaming etc will all be to the maximum of 120Hz. There are no TV's that have over that mark only monitors. 200Hz is just interpolated framerate adding a much bigger soap opera effect when displayed (which usually adds more issues with detail and clarity)

  • Would this be any good for a monitor extension for a laptop? Mainly for multiple documents, excel, content creation, web browsers, documents, casual graphic editing, etc

I have an old 50" 6100 model which I used for that very purpose, and it's perfect for me.

But there are a few things to keep in mind when using a TV as a PC monitor:

The supported resolutions of the TV and PC will probably be limited (some resolutions that work on the PC may not be supported by the TV, and vice versa).

So, often, you are left with a compromise - the resolution which looks best on the PC monitor or laptop may not look perfect on the TV.

That's mainly due to the aspect ratios being different, so you may end up with a black stripe on the sides or the top and bottom of the TV (or the display may look stretched).

Some resolutions may produce a display which requires sideways scrolling, which is a pain, other resolutions may make certain elements on the TV to appear too small or too big (eg text in the browser can be increased but the icon size may be too small to see or read the icon or folder name, and so on.

You can adjust some settings in the accessibility options, so that the TV display looks "the same" as a monitor (just bigger).

One of the best ways to adjust the size of all elements on the screen is to adjust something that's called pixel size or something like that (just Google it).

Of course if you use your laptop or PC with a 16:9 display that will probably make things a bit easier.

Ps. even my old 6100 model has a PC input (it's the old VGA and RCA inputs) but if the newer TVs have a better video port/input/adapter it should make things much easier.

I can also just connect my laptop to the old TV using standard HDMI cable (but that can introduce the aspect ratios issues I mentioned above).

But, once you get it set up to your liking, I think you'll be very happy with it

I know I am - I can just switch between my PC/laptop, TV, Foxtel, and Xbox using the TV remote, and the TV remembers the settings for each source which is great.

  • Can't find any stock around Sydney checked online :(

  • Q60R = Q70T for refresh but doubt it has HDMI 2.1

  • Can someone let me know if they find it in stock and what store it is at.

  • I tried to ring their phone sales department on 1300 942 765 but it was after hours, so they were closed.

If you ring them maybe they'll be able to check stock levels for you, and see which store closest to you has stock?

Ps. I never rang them on this number to check stock availability, but the number was advertised just above the TV, so who knows …

  • Any stock in VIC?

  • So, I spoke to a store rep who informed me that it is a clearance item, with very limited stock (if you can find it).

He said that they expect delivery in February of some of the clearance items, such as the Q60T (last year's model), but he had no idea if there will be any more of this particular model, but the assumption is that there will be no more stock.

So, I am marking this deal as out of stock, even though it's still visible on the website I will be expiring the deal very soon.

The person I spoke to is Arjun on (02) 9663 6800 (Moore Park store) so I assume this information to be correct.

Ps. the Q60T is not on sale at The Good Guys atm afaik, and they sell for around $1,499 + $55 delivery (no pickup) so not a bargain, since you can get them cheaper elsewhere.
