Looking to buy a bunch of quality powerboards, double adapters, and extension cords to sort my whole house out. Where's best?

Not really sure what the go is with these, brand wise or storewise — if Belkin and such are worth the premium, if there's any store that just kills it with this equipment in particular, etc.. Where would you shop if you were in the market for, say, 5x 4-thru-8-outlet powerboards, 4x double adapters, 4x extension cords of various lengths?

Cheers all!

If you want to do things properly is it worth getting a sparky in to wire some points in?

Maybe, but that's not really in the budget right now. Plus these things are just damn handy to have around, I don't think my uses for them are that dodgy — in the kitchen, I've got the kettle, toaster, sodastream, microwave, espresso machine, blender, portable cooktop, rice cooker, electric frying pan, stand mixer, etc. and while I obviously don't have them all out/in use at the same time it's nice to be able to just plug and go rather than playing musical chairs with the outlets. In the loungeroom, I've got the TV, a couple of lamps, router, AndroidTV, Switch, and I like to have my phone and laptop charger accessible to me when I'm sitting on the lounge that's in the middle of the room.

Admittedly it is a 90s house so there are a couple instances of why the hell didn't they put an outlet there but I'm not stacking boards upon cables upon adapters upon cables or anything.

Yep, definitely on the cards, just thought I'd dip into the OzBargain hivemind in case there was an "oh, yeah, only normies get ripped off at Bunnings, all the cool kids get these ones from this place" situation as there so often is.

      • You are buying some power adapters, not a new car !

    Just go to Bunnings.

I use one of these for my desk alone. Buy some double sided tape if you want stick the powerboard to the wall as well.

    • Sounds like Bunno's is the go. Makes it easy at least. Cheers

  • What do people do for cable management when using extensions on wood floors? i have cables everywhere atm and need to sort it out. Sadly our place only has a single socket in each room so i need to run wires to opposite sides until we can budget a sparky to fit some new points.

    • Yo so I have no idea if anyone else does this but I came up with this once: https://i.imgur.com/1BEA5Og.png

Coil a malleable wire around your cables and they become bendable themselves, and can then be moulded to follow along and up any wall. Can also be moved around and adjusted as you like without having to remove/replace cabling hardware. Get some rubber/plastic coated wire the colour of your cables to blend in (does this exist? I'm thinking like…. a coil of thick bread tie, ha) and avoid having metal directly on wood.

Just means sitting there wrapping wires around cables but it's the kind of repetitive mindless thing you can do while watching tv/listening to a podcast.

Disclaimer: I have no idea if this is unsafe somehow lol

  • I bought belkin ones at OW matching and beating Bunnings’ price, saves me a few dollars. In terms of quality, they are by far the best I have used. Only downside is that they are enormous and to a degree ugly

IKEA also has some cheap power-boards, extensions cables etc.

Keep in mind not all power-boards have surge protection (that's why some are so cheap) so if you're connecting some expensive equipment you may want to get a more decent board for that space.

I personally use Arlec Grid Connect boards where you want to turn things on and off by voice, making life easy - https://www.bunnings.com.au/our-range/build-a-smart-home/gri…
