Retarded or offensive deals

I get so irritated at some of the deals being offered.

Tonight, there is a spreets offer that promises a "90 Minute Healthy Cooking Class PLUS a Wine and Dine Experience With a True Master Chef" http://spreets.com.au/deal/Perth/other/14649/90-minute-healt…

Normally when you pay for an experience that includes "wine" in the title, you would expect some sort of wine to be provided, however crappy that wine might be. This offer extolls the follwing "Just bring along your favourite bottle of white or red to enjoy while you eat" WTF!!!! I could sell people a wine experience of my front porch for $49 for a two-hour session, provided they BYO!!! Ridiculous.

Then we have Scoopon who has sold vouchers for Mobilia homewares with the follwoing inducement - "Delivery included - get your fabulous new designer pieces delivered to your door at no charge!" Apparently No Charge means they will take it out of your voucher. How offensive, and contrary to the deal being offered. No charge means you won't pay, not that they will reduce the $100 voucher by a whopping $15. It would be pretty easy to disclose this, or be silent on it, rather than saying "NO CHARGE". I bought this deal, got a condescending phone call from Mobilia in response to my request that they process my order manually as they were still charging $15, even though there is NO CHARGE allowed. I have asked scoopon for a credit for deal, but in fact, should just complain to the new GB authority and the WA office of fair trading. It is pretty outrageous and both scoopon and Mobilia have wasted my time.
No response from scoopon as of yet. http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/6903/just-39-for-100-worth-o…

Then there is a funny yet highly offensive Cudo offer for IPL hair removal from LA Sin cosmetics. http://cudo.com.au/perth/rid-body-hair-the-permanent-way-wit…
This offer tells that I should "Say sayonara to the pesky hairs sprouting from your unwanted regions". I take objection to the premise that I have "unwanted regions". I might have unwanted hairs, but all of my "regions" are "wanted".

Well said! Yeah I think a lot of those coupon sites are scraping the bottom of the barrel now. Too much competition, not enough decent deals to go around. That Wine & Dine deal where you have to BYO wine is just mad!

  • Nice rant, love the touch of humour :) But if you don't complain to the correct authority, you can't really complain if the system doesn't improve.

    • Who's the right authority?

if you're talking about the actual groupbuy sites themselves, i'd say save your breathe.

      • If it's one of the "Big 8" sites, you can complain to ADMA …

they are useless, you have to complain to group buy company first, then if you don't get a satisfactory response you can lodge a complaint on adma site. then you have to wait 15 days for the group buy company to respond.

        • I don't see how they help, are they supposed to create the appearance that group buying has some sort of professional code?

It should be spelt Whine when people realise they've been duped in this deal.

VoteOften you are currently my favourite person on OzB. With your last sentence you sealed the deal hahahaha
But it is so true that many of the GroupBuy sites are now resorting to misleading titles and dodgy conditions!
    Beware what you buy.
This is one reason why I think these GroupBuys won't last that long on the market. It's cheaper just directly approach restaurants/services and ask for offers!

  • Fantastic!! Thanks
