Amazon Australia & GST

Is it right to assume that everything supplied by Amazon Australia has GST included in the price?

I purchased an item from an Australian market place store, and when I requested a tax invoice got a non tax invoice from their overseas parent.

Q1 Yes, gst is always included in the price on Amazon.com.au

Q2 See this forum topic 'Should I Be Able to Get a GST Tax Invoice from a Purchase Fulfilled by Amazon AU'

If the third party seller is not GST registered you will get a different type of purchase document. Usually it's just the 'Printable Order Summary'. You won't get the usual tax invoice.

    • A business cannot claim the GST back if they only receive a 'Printable Order Summary'.

      • You'll need to contact orico and have them create invoice for you

      • This is correct.

  • Wasn't RAVpower was it? I needed an invoice for one of their items purchased via Amazon and had to exchange a few emails before I received it. The issue seemed to be the person handling it wasn't in Aust and so wasn't familiar with our tax requiriments etc which is fair enough. Only took a couple of days to sort.

  • Wasn't RAVpower. Orico Australia Store.

  • Orico Australia https://abr.business.gov.au/ABN/View/14611873477

As they are not GST registered, whatever they sell doesn't have GST component in it.

    • So, how does one know which items on Amazon Australia have GST and which don't?

It does not make sense to me.

      • Amazon AU itself and Amazon US/UK that sells in AU site all have GST. Third party sellers who are overseas based and item shipped from overseas most of the time have their GST collected by AU thus tax invoice is provided by AU itself.

Third party sellers who are AU based or those overseas sellers who ship from within AU itself can be either GST or Non-GST registered. The general rules are those sellers need to have $75k of 12 month of sales to be GST registered. This is the reason why some sellers do not issue tax invoice as their sales are just not above the threshold yet.

If you don't know - you can just simply ask them directly. If they don't know then you can assume they do not issue tax invoice.

    • Thats been cancelled since June 30 2020 as well (still registered on ASIC tho)
