Agree. Seriously. New phones are like cars (maybe worse). The price drops so much in such a short time. You safe HEAPS of money.

You can even safe more money buying second hand, but unless you know what you're doing, there are risks with these beware. (Personally got the first gen fold last year for just under 1k).

Safest would be, buying last year's product as discounts are still significant.

I suppose another option would be from those education stores.

I only buy refurbished, for purposes relating to the environment, hip pocket, etc.

    • Always pre-order.

A bit unfair comparison between the S21 Ultra and the Pixel 5… considering that the RRP price difference is over $850, the size difference is massive and it is aimed at totally different people. And at over $1800 retail for the Ultra (not considering EDU discounts or EDP discounts in the future) it is hardly a bargain at the moment.

The Pixel has been out for longer so the pricing is adjusted for that.

  • neither will be the best buy

    • Which one do you recommend?

  • Pixel 4A?

  • I purchased a pixel 5 end of Dec for $740 off eBay. Private seller. Sorta sage colour only used for a week so phone and contents were practically brand new. Onto the phone now… Coming from a HTC 10 of course it's a significant improvement. List of pros and cons
    Pros
    1. Good quality photos and video stabilisation
    2. Exceptional battery IMO. Specs are refined to make it less hungry
    3. It's a unique and rather sexy phone. I have sorta sage colour with clear spigen case
    4. Very simply UI
    5. Smooth buttery performance. Hasn't frozen or failed on me once in the past 1.5months (Touchwood)

    Cons
    1. Full body screen which means speaker under screen. Takes some time getting used to.
    2. Split second processing time for photo viewing from camera. Almost negligible
    3. Switching keyboard language and viewing emojis. My HTC was more intuitive here.
    4. When I send photos and do markups from left side of screen, it goes back rather than starts drawing as there is no back button like galaxy s6. My HTC 10 had a electro/physical back button. It's the swipe gesture I'm not too used to.
    5. I rotate phone anti clockwise for Netflix and games which results in camera punch out being under my left hand. If I'm not mistaken, the light sensor light be integrated with camera and therefore screen goes dull most times I landscape

Overall it's an amazing phone and hasn't let me down I have no doubt the galaxy s21 ultra is a great phone but don't always go hitting numbers. I feel the pixel 5 is a very refined (if that makes sense) and optimised phone. Would I buy it again even with above cons? Yes.

You can bring back the back button by searching for Gestures, going to System Navigation, and changing it to 3-button navigation.

      • True, you can bring back 3 gesture navigation, but negative is Google wont allow changes there- rearrange buttons order.
Return button is always on the left side, while i moved from Samsung, then they allow to rearrange 3 gesture buttons order, so return can be either on the right or left side, whichever you prefer.
Strange that Google phone wont get you best experience out of Android.

Coming back then S21 Ultra has remarkably bigger screen 6.8'' vs Pixel5 6".
First I bought pixel 5 but i didn't like with navigation arrangement on pixel phone then now i have S21 and happy with it.
If P5 would allow to rearrange navigation buttons then i most probably would be a Pixel user, but here i am with my Galaxy S21 and as long Google phones wont give me best experience out of Android i stick with Samsung who can give me that.
