  • Good topic. We just bought a house so nothing left to invest on the larger side of things, but do put a little each week into spaceship just to see what happens.

I wonder if I should be using coinjar instead. Thoughts?

    • It is really personal preference i use Coinjar and BTC

Brokerage may hurt your returns in the short-medium term but otherwise go for it

      • Suggestions on best broker?

Im with CMC but the cheapest is Selfwealth from memory

dont use Comsec unless it is just to look at there layout

I would suggest https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/opentrader.com.au , over self wealth due to lower fees. ($5 vs $9.95, if <$5k which I believe is your case)

As Try2SaveABuck says, brokerage (and fees in general) does reduce your return, so you'll want to minimise it by:

          1. Choosing the cheapest broker
          2. Reducing the number of times you get charged a brokerage fee.

May I suggest increasing the amount you purchase and reduce the frequency of buying?
i.e. Instead of $500/month (=$60/yr in brokerage), how about $1000 per 2 months (=$30/yr), or $3000 per six months (=$10/yr)

          • @dsar: Legend, thanks for the great advice!

Superhero brokerage is free for ETFs

    • Im doing the same just to understand and get the hang of it before investing larger sums.

Comm bank do have an app called pocket which has half a dozen ETFs with a $2 brokerage fee per trade whuch is very low. Good way to start…

      • $2.00 for trades up to and including $1,000

0.20% of the value of trades above $1,000

  • Reading these posts make me want to start investing any tips or anything i should read on how to start.

  • 8 votes for crypto and 1 vote for US shares. Sounds logical.

    • if that isn't an indication of "healthy" speculation i don't what is.

  • I’ll continue to invest in the markets like I have been for a few years now. Both in Australian and global equities.
