Saw a lot of young suits in boots around the CBD lately, they look ridiculous.

    • +1

That's been the look for the past 50 years. What's suddenly ridiculous about it?

Suits are considered to be formal wear and goes best with lace up formal shoes, meeting clients with trouser hanging off the boots is not a good look, save the RMs for casual friday. These boots with suits look start popping post 2000s not 50 years go.

Well polished pair of RMs looks a million times better than the cheap glued shoes you see otherwise.. Even with suits

You obviously have no idea about the formality of dress Chelsea boots. Who are you to dictate that its casual?

Look at our top politicians and Prime Minister when they meet other world leaders. Guess what they are wearing? Black RM Williams Craftsman…with a suit.

The RM Williams Craftsman was developed as a dress boot - not a casual work boot. Perhaps you need to read up on the history of the boot and its significance in Australian culture.

The point about trousers hanging off the boots (assuming you mean tugs are showing) is another issue altogether.

@zhenjie: LOL Yeah I know you will go there, Tony Abbott and Kevin Rudd rocking them.

Trouser i mean is suit trouser are small and not fit over the boots so it look ridiculous.

          • @zhenjie: australia's top politicians and prime ministers aren't know worldwide for being fashionable.

"Kevin Rudd dubbed boot wearing geek. British press say he's a charisma-free zone"

"One of the first things you will notice is that a disproportionate number are wearing the ugly, yet simple, elasticised RM Williams Boots. Tony Abbott has called them "quite the fashion item on the front bench". Perhaps they can't tie their shoelaces?"

aussie prime ministers always wear the calf leather versions of rm williams boots, which are made with much better leather and are finished with much more attention to detail. the cheaper "yearling" leather is typically a work boot leather.

            • @devilbabies: We don't need our politicians to be fashionable. We need them to be competent doing the job they were elected by the people to do.

For all I care, our PM can wear a pink tutu and orange slippers if he was an excellent leader.

            • @devilbabies: The Yearling leather, as per the craftsman, was made for the purpose of being a capable dress boot, that's the history of rm williams craftsman. There's alot of m

ion that's it started as a work or riding boot, that is not the case. You simple need to look at the archives of old RM Williams ads.

The yearling is fine for dress occasions. I have both the Signature Craftsman French veal calf and Yearling leathers and would happily wear both in formal occasions after a decent polish.

The work leathers the greasy kips, vesta, etc.
