serves you right for not checking Ozbargain more frequently…

        @ccrap

Jv was just vondering if Maria has got the problem off her chest in this film.
The answer is no, she did in S.O.B.

        • That's a falsie, there's only one. :)

Well, to paraphrase the common saying, "a tit in hand is worth more than the two hidden in… "

        • I think I rather have the ….

        • at the risk of having this whole thread deleted, I think the saying was.

No - I will NOT reduce myself to your smutty level.

          (tit)

        • Did I get it wrong? Forgive me, I'm no ornithologist.

        • Well with a handle like yours you would probably be a vermeologist. :) (I didn't know this word until I looked it up.)

  • Also, Black Swan for $15.95, seem alright.

  • £5.00 if you get it from Amazon UK.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sound-Music-45th-Anniversary-Blu-ray…
(Although my plastic casting got broken a bit!)

    • meh, a slightly better price, but with this there's little/no waiting, and you don't have to worry about the player being region-free.

      • +2

It's a bluray from the UK, it is the same region even if there was protection on that disc. The DVD would be a different case but then how many DVD players are still locked?

    • just wondering how much you paid for shipping?

      • Free delivery if you spend more than £25. Also when shipping to Oz they will subtract the tax so it comes to £4 .

    • To be fair, it looks like OP's version is to be had for £8.99 from Amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sound-Music-45th-Anniversary-Blu-ray…

I do not think there is any difference in content but the £8.99 version is marketed as Blu-Ray + DVD and the £5 version as DVD + Blu-Ray.

Thanks OP, I reallllly need something else fo rmy mum for christmas, and this is perfect! Now she'll be able to watch her favourite movie in high-def…once I buy a bluray player in the post xmas sales :-D

Good to see an Australian electronics retailer approaching Amazon UK's everyday price. Now to do that for the other one million items in stock (or more likely not in stock)… and to offer free shipping as well. Here's hoping.

  • +1 for description :)

Dick Smiths click and collect system is a joke. I reserved one of these at george street store but was told they couldn't find the blurays. Not the first time its happened to me with the click and collect system either. The retail staff don't give a rats for the online orders it appears.

    • Really? Mine worked like a charm. I used the click & collect system at Dick Smith Gateways (WA) and collected it today with no problems.

  • Excellent Deal

  • Does this include a CD of the soundtrack?

  • No it doesn't. Well it might include the soundtrack on either the DVD or blu-ray, but there's only the two discs.

In 1930's Austria, a young woman named Maria is failing miserably in her attempts to become a nun. When the Navy captain Georg Von Trapp writes to the convent asking for a governess that can handle his seven mischievous children, Maria is given the job. The Captain's wife is dead, and he is often away, and runs the household as strictly as he does the ships he sails on. The children are unhappy and resentful of the governesses that their father keeps hiring, and have managed to run each of them off one by one. When Maria arrives, she is initially met with the same hostility, but her kindness, understanding, and sense of fun soon draws them to her and brings some much-needed joy into all their lives — including the Captain's. Eventually he and Maria find themselves falling in love, even though Georg is already engaged to a Baroness and Maria is still a postulant. The romance makes them both start questioning the decisions they have made…

I was wondering how Austria, a landlocked country, could have a navy. It's explained here:

        http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/20…

In The Sound of Music, now enjoying a revival in Manhattan as the campy Sing-A-Long Sound of Music, Capt. Georg von Trapp, the severe widower whose heart is won by the madcap Maria, is retired from the Austrian navy. Since Austria is a landlocked country, why does it have a navy?

It doesn't anymore. But back before the captain became paterfamilias to a troop of singing moppets, he was a famous World War I submarine captain in the navy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The empire controlled the port city Trieste (now part of Italy) and the Slovenian and Croatian coasts. Today the Austrian military has two boats in the Danube.

  • Thanks! Just came back from DSE, had to rifle through all the BluRays before I found it. Pretty happy with it, well my mum will be :)

    • your mum said the only blu-ray player is in your bedroom.
