Mount Buller - Wheel Chains

Planning a trip up to Mount Buller later this year, was wondering if anyone has some advice about the cheapest place to rent Wheel Chains for a 3 - 4 day stay?

Any other penny pinching tips would be much appreciated!

If it is 4 days might as well purchase your own. I got a set of these Konigs from Amazon for my car. Just get the wheel size and your good to go. Cost me about $100 for a set that has been used like once or twice and while not the latest or greatest it wasn't too hard to put on and get off.

    • If it's only a once off trip, 4 days hire is about $50.

      • Though for $50 more can own a set of chains for another trip or future trips down the road.

Hopefully slopes will be open for a good season. Us Victorians didn't get to see the snow last season in 2020.

Do you have gear or will you hire? If you're hiring, Buller Sports in Mansfield do free chains if you hire gear. That's where I usually go.

Otherwise I think most places would have similar pricing on chain hire.

  • If you do buy them (good idea), make sure they are not ladder chains.

Many mountains have started to ban them, prob not too long til Buller does the same.
