Just a heads up AMEX are adding Smartphone Screen Insurance from the 25th to plat edge card

Smartphone Screen Insurance
Accidents happen, but with complimentary screen insurance,1 you are covered for repairs up to $500 if you break your screen. Simply purchase your phone outright, or pay your monthly bill with your Card to be eligible. This benefit is available for claim events occurring on, or after, 25 February 2021.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Smartphone Screen Insurance. For Smartphone Screen Insurance, you must use your American Express Platinum Edge Credit Card to pay for your phone outright or your monthly phone bill. Maximum of 2 claims per 12 month period, per Account, maximum cover of $500 per claim and an excess of 10% of the claimed amount applies. Waiting periods may apply. The insurance is underwritten by Chubb Insurance Australia Limited (ABN 23 001 642 020, AFSL No. 239687) under a group policy held by American Express Australia Limited (ABN 92 108 952 085, AFSL No. 291313).     Well waiting periods will be interesting hehe! I had better wait to repair my screen in case this has a flow on to other Amex Cards. I have the 'Amex Plat.' - with no 'edge' :o(

      Looks like you should still get the benefit; from the miniature Q&A:

      Q: Am I eligible to make a claim?
      A: To be eligible, your Smartphone must be paid for outright in a single transaction using your American Express Platinum® Card, Essential® or Explorer® Credit Card; or your Smartphone must be paid for on a monthly contract using your American Express Platinum® Card, Essential® or Explorer® Credit Card. Waiting periods may apply. For full eligibility criteria refer to the American Express Platinum® Card Terms and Conditions, the American Express Essential® Credit Card Terms and Conditions and the American Express Explorer® Credit Card Insurance Terms and Conditions.

        Bugger, I used the card to purchase gift cards to then purchase the phone.

    Doesn't it cost more than $500 to replace the screens of a lot of premium phones?

      usually does but $450 towards a new screen after $50 access fee isn't a bad thing, though can't beat 28degrees with their free insurance & 12m price protection for those that still have it before they stopped offering it

    Hypothetically if you purchased a JB plan and applied the voucher to the phone and also used gift cards and payign the balance with a credit card e.g. $50 balance, has anyone tried to claim the insurance there? i.e. minimising outright payment and maximising discounted gift cards… or can we not have our cake

      You are covered if you pay your monthly bill with your Amex card

      Simply purchase your phone outright, or pay your monthly bill with your Card to be eligible
