Looking for an Android Tablet?

Google has announced it's NEXUS Tablet will be coming in 6 months time.

Look for the discounts on existing units and new units from other Android manufacturers if what Google Chairman Eric Schmidt says is true

So maybe worth waiting and in the meantime buying a low end Android to tide you over…

In part this is some of the article

Google has used the Nexus range – so far limited to phones – to help push its interpretation of how the smartphone should evolve. The first model, the HTC-made Nexus One, led the market in processor speed, while its successor, the Samsung-made Nexus S, introduced features like NFC. Most recently, the Galaxy Nexus arrived, the debut device for ICS.

Android tablets have generally struggled to compete with Apple’s iPad, and even the HP TouchPad managed to squeeze ahead of Android-based models in 2011 sales thanks to its cut-price discounting. Common criticisms include the somewhat jerky performance of Android 3.x Honeycomb, as well as a shortage of slate-scale apps to suit the larger displays.

So it makes sense to up the ante for the Tablet offering.

  • Wait for another 6 months for Nexus or get Transformer Prime =(
Such a hard decision… technologies are moving too fast nowadays!

There has been a great deal of excitement expressed (not the least in Ozbargain threads), and also shared by me, about the impending release of the Asus Transformer Prime. It's certainly going to be quite a cat among the current pigeons, but the bigger cats are coming - sooner rather than later.

The pile of recent rumours have effectively been confirmed by credible leaks from component manufacturers. In the area of screen resolution the tabs in question are going to eat the Transformers alive as were they indeed Prime - Prime Meat. The Nexus tab looks like it's going to come a little late to the table but when it arrives it'll no doubt be a lion, processor-wise and otherwise.

In the meantime, WE can salivate about Acer Tegra 3 tabs (10 inch A510/511) to replace the current Iconias and also A700/A701 10 inch tabs with 1920×1200 screen resolution! Only one exclamation point though, because while referenced to the Prime's 1280×800 it's a huge step, Samsung is strongly rumoured to be bringing out an 11.6 inch tab with 2560×1600 pixels!! Oh,the Humanity!!!

King of the Tablet Jungle, however, is still likely to be a certain company not unfamiliar with a feline bloodbath…

Within 3 months it's reckoned by many, an iPad 3 with a processor no doubt the practical match of the Tegra 3, if not better, and with a Prime munching screen resolution of 2048×1536.

If Apple sees fit to finally add a memory card slot and a couple of ports, for Asus it really may be a case of making hay while the sun shines - and then reflects off that sparkly new keyboard dock!
