A Question for Hungry Jacks Employees (Substituting Beef in Whopper for Rebel Patty without Charge)

When I shake and win a $4 whopper, I've had very mixed success with substituting the beef patty for a rebel patty. I know it's possible to sub instead of remove beef and then add rebel (+$2) because it's happened a few times.

My question: What is the menu structure on the POS for subbing so that I can avoid paying the surcharge?

  • Why are you substituting gold standard beef patties that cook really well on barbecues (public?) for soy alternatives. I have it on good authority that soy patties will stick to stainless steel surfaces far worse than beef ones.

Is it because you want to add the soy patty to pumpkin soup?

Lunchers, please know that in the wise words of 'D6C1' a couple of years back re this post:

… this one about the HJ patties is also clearly a troll post. Albeit another humorous one. Not as funny as that epic 'public BBQ' one though. That was a 'cool story'.

        • Oh yeah, I remember the public bbq post. Classic.

sorry, the humour didn't carry through the text :D my response wasn't a serious one except to bring up the BBQ again :D

I assume you are talking about my dispute with my neighbours.

Just so you know, that was all resolved amicably and I am now quite happy living elsewhere, away from those crazies.

That BBQ post was the best best post ever!

Depends, normally on promo items you can't do substitutions. So in your case, paying $2 extra is a good deal.

If you want a way to get a 'free' rebel upgrade on your $4 burger, yeah won't happen.

As I mentioned in my post it's happened several times and is easily possible if you know the right menu combination to achieve it.

      • Even if someone told you, what do you hope to achieve? Do you think they are or will be obliged to do it if you tell them? I don't think so.

        • OP wants to bark orders at them on what buttons to push to get 'free' stuff. Looks like they have upgraded from BBQ cooking though ;)

  • I dunno but this reminds me. They used to have a specific button for “whopper no beef” and you could order this delicious salad sandwich for the tiny sum of $1.60.

Then the button disappeared and suddenly a whopper minus the beef pattie jumped to around $5.

    Game over :(

How's this then Dinger … in the 'olden days' when the shaky app first came out one of the things you could 'win' on it was a FREE bacon deluxe burger! I Sh*t you not (ask around, it's true as the day is long)! Now, with STEAKS that high, of course it was MERE MOMENTS before some kindly geeks fashioned a 'little tweak' that rather easily enabled one to, erm, 'happen upon' that comparatively substantial 'win' with a rather predictable degree of certainty (erm, so I'm told). Apparently some people's DOGS even got sick of eating those free bacon deluxe burgers, eventually. Aaah, fun times.

Yeah it was a goldmine for the first 6 months or so when you could actually win things. And maybe even influence it a little.

I struggle with the current position where you only get a slight discount but they still call it shake and “win”.

        • I don’t know what you mean by that. I regularly win things for free.

Like free medium fries - twice in the past week.
Free large soft drink - once in the past week, and at least once in the week before that.
$2 medium onion rings, whilst it isn’t free, it is a good discount. My wife had that one two, maybe three times during the past two weeks.

  • There is also a long term offer of two rebels for $9.95 which is a similar outcome, provided you want two.

Rebel patties are really nice. I think they’re actually nicer than the meat + sawdust patties. They have a smoky grilled flavour.

This is old news now but the same thing used to happen with the old veggie whoppers. Sometimes you could sub for free, sometimes you couldn't.
