Knive Block set

Hey,
I just bought a knife set from King of Knives for a Christmas present. I bought the Bismarck Classic 9pc Knife Block Set thinking at the time it was made in Germany, it was just german steel made in China. My other choice was Brasilia Savana 9 Pce Knife Block Set, this one is German Steel made in Brazil. They are both the same price, so I'm wondering which knife block set you guys think is better quality?

Thanks

  • If the steel is German anyway, does it really matter where the knives were made? surely you're still going to get the same cutting performance if they're constructed in China or Brazil, or am I missing something?

You had me worried for a bit there - I have a Bismarck set still waiting to come out of its box, and was thinking I'd been conned too.

  • I think the quality of the German made knife set would be better.
But I am no knife expert! ;)

    • I think the quality of the German made knife set would be better.

Would that be the set made by "The Boys from Brazil"?

      • Woops typo! My bad…
Goes to show how much attention I pay this time of year.

I meant the set made in Brazil, but you all know what I mean.

  • I checked my packaging, and it doesn't say where the knives are made, simply mentions Bismarck Germany, and German Steel. Where did you come accross the info on where they're made please mrhorseham?

    • On the box, it says Made in China on the back, above the barcode.
I bought the knives at the store in bondi, but went to QVB to ask them, and the guy seemed to know quite a bit, basically said Brasilia are more popular and well known, but the quality of the knives will be much the same as Bismarck.
I just got the Bismarck because the rrp was much higher than that of Brasilia, so more of a discount.

  • Well it is already bought so not much you can do. Anyways, the high end quality products from China are known to be much better than most places in the world. Unless you got one of the products where they have reduced quality to get a lower cost because that's what we want overseas.

  • Keep your docket (or better still, a copy of it in case it fades) - regardless of where they're made, there's a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects.

King of Knives has some fantastic specials, but at the normal prices these are fairly costly, so one would expect them to be a reasonable quality.

  • +1

Bit late now but I would return the set and buy a Mundial set.
They seem to be exactly the same 9 pieces and Brazilian made, lifetime warranty as well.
Can get for under $160 delivered:

    • +1 been around kitchens a lot in my lifetime and Mundial are the way to go for cheap but good knives

  • Do not buy any knives where the actual steel is not specified because chances are it's something terrible that will become dull if you so much as look at it.
