    Nice, thanks for sharing!

You should definitely sign up if you are eligible but it isn't "instant cash". Any payments will be conditional on the class action being successful and the companies actually paying. These things usually take years to get resolved. For example, the VW diesel emissions class action took 5 years until a settlement was reached.

  • That'll explain some of our more ludicrous bills over the last few years. Thanks OP!

Can already see how this will pan out, this will take years, the class action MIGHT win, but the lawyers will take the lions share of the money, consumers will get cents to the dollar, and then energy prices will go up to repay the costs and any payout, and then everyone loses with higher electricity costs.

      But the lawyers win :)

Yeah class actions really need to cap the percentage that lawyers can take.

        They always do.

The lawyers wouldn't be shelling out the costs for years of drawn out litigation, if they didn't think they would make many millions of dollars from this. They don't give a crap about the people, just the money.

        • That's most lawyers not just class action. There's a reason they charge by the minute.

@crashloaded: Oh yeah, for sure. Didn't lawyers get ranked with used car salesman in some industry trustworthy ranking survey?

The funders take 30% of the winnings, the lawyers take their fees times 125% (they get an extra 25% in "interest"), and the last in the chain of distribution is the actual class members. It's basically robbery.

      • The class members MAY even see a handful of dollars given to them. Right before their next bill comes and they have to pay more than that in every single following bill.
