Telstra Cable (with Foxtel) Force to nbn - No HFC (Yet?)

HELP!

Currently on Telstra Cable unlimited ~100mbps and probably leaving this premises in 6months. Obviously, Telstra are trying to force us onto NBN however status seems to be as below -

"Sorry, your location is not eligible for the nbn™ Technology Choice Program.
Your premises is not yet ready to connect.
The global supply shortage impacting nbn™ HFC connections."

Seems we are due for HFC tech in our street, but delayed…

Is anyone in the same boat? What are my chances of staying on Cable (we have Foxtel, too).

Do we sign up for the HFC NBN and just hope it's delayed out the wazoo, effectively staying on Cable internet until it's done? Also, we STILL have a Foxtel cable running into the house… Why can't we just stay on this?

In writing this I've just realised that having Foxtel and cable internet is this Hybrid Fibre Connection… 🤦🏻‍♂️ now I'm even more confused.

Thanks all in advance for advice and discussion 🤗

HFC connections are delayed outright due to a global shortage of NTD devices components.

You wont be forced off until NBN re-open NBN HFC connections.

And you're right, you probably are staying on the existing Foxtel cable running into the house. HFC is the Foxtel Cable.

However if you choose to continue using Foxtel.
You will most likely be pushed onto satellite.

The NBN purchased the HFC cable infrastructure from Foxtel to use exclusively for Internet services.
So once the transition is complete Foxtel PayTV will no longer be served via Cable.
    It will all be satellite.
That way the NBN can repurpose the spectrum on the cable for internet which will increase bandwidth.

If I was a Foxtel subscriber I’d prefer cable and there is a lot less latency when scrolling through channels and less interference however, that’s not an option.
You will be changed over to satellite or IPTV.

Lucky I'm mid-way through rebuilding my Plex server setup! 😉

From Telstra but yes point is corect.

They have said all customers will be moved to Satellite by end of this year.

Regardless of your connection type, whether you upgrade to NBN etc
I know they about to launch IQ5 box and it is Satellite only.

Stay on telstra cable as long as you can. I moved to NBN cable and it's been bad with dropouts. Weird since it's the exact same physical cable.

That should improve over time. Foxtel/Bigpond only ever used to hit about 30/40% of houses that could get it, where as under nbn the network goes into 100% of houses so the number of connected premises per network leg has increased.

That combined with the fact that Telstra, Foxtel and nbn are all coexisting on different spectrums means that there is a transitional period where the network quality won't be as good as it can be. Once all the Telstra and Foxtel customers are off, nbn customers should see improvement in service quality.

    • I had exact opposite result.

Cable was constantly dropping out, speed drops, hours without service.
Switched to NBN HFC… have not had an issue since.

    • +1 stay on cable as long as u can. nbn sux.

When you do transition over to nbn, they will should use the existing cable that comes into your house. You already have a lead-in and wall plate, so the "nbn install" will be to provide you with a nbn HFC modem and to put a sticker on your wallplate showing that it's connected to the nbn.

Everyone will be forced onto (well, not actually forced onto but you know what I mean) NBN unless you will only have access to Satellite NBN or fixed wireless. In that case you will keep your phone line and are able to continue using ADSL if you so wish.

    https://www.nbnco.com.au/learn/device-compatibility/which-se…

Premises connected to the nbn™ access network via nbn™ Fixed Wireless and Sky Muster™ won't be disconnected from their existing phone and internet services by nbn.

    • edit: Most or all existing non-NBN fibre services will also continue uninterrupted.
