Looking for advices - how to fix a motorcycle carrier on a campervan?

hi !

i m after a way to bring my scooter with me as i m moving interstate soon.

Was going to seel my scooter here and buy a new one, but prices are crazy, got mine for 500 dollars. (small 50cc - 90 kg only)

I have a toyota Hiace with already something attached at the back , but it s more like a stepback without the tow bar.

I m not sure if i need to get a tow bar installed and get rid of the one i got or if it s possible to have both ?

As i will be using the carrier only few times a year, so i will put it in and out when needed only (price is 150 on ebay)

So i m looking for any ideas or advices,

Thanks everyone !

  • Depends on the tow bar type you have. If you have a tow bar with he removable hitch, you can get all sorts of adaptors for them.

I have a Hayman Reese tow bar with a 40mm receiver for the tow hitch, so I just buy whatever I need to go in it to tow what I need. I have a scooter carrier and a push bike carrier as well as a tow ball hitch and just swap them out as required.

  • hi, thanks

i don t have any tow bar yet, just a stepback, not sure i can just add a tow bar on top of it ?

was looking to uploaded a photo to explain myself better !

how many advices are you after?

put it inside and pack some light stuff on the roof
    .

  • Put it in the van. Or sell and buy, probably cheaper than getting a new tow bar.

  • Yeah I'd say put it in the van. 90kg is a lot of weight to have on a towbar in general. Probably not ideal. People with caravans / campervans with bikes or scooters on the back tend to have a pretty specialised setup that probably cost a bit and required some legwork at the rear of the vehicle.

    • You might be surprised. Most vehicles capable of towing a decent sized caravan will support 2-300kg with an off the shelf towbar.
