TCL 43P8M TV? Real World Reviews Please

Looking at buying a 2nd TV for the bedroom so will be dark room, will mostly use for PS4/Xbox games and 4K movies with some streaming services.

I'm not too worried if it loads slow I'm more worried about the quality of the picture and fast moving movies and games?

I like to use Netflix and Amazon oh and I'll want to use my Bluetooth ear buds?

Buying used but will still have 18 months warranty invoice from previous owners.

Thanks

TCL P8M series was very popular and well regarded. You're welcome to have a read through the whirlpool thread on it: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9j584n83

I have the 55 inch version myself in the bedroom. They have a near instant startup time (from standby), loads everything fine from YT and Prime that I've thrown at it, you can use your bluetooth earbuds with it and there is no issue with ghosting/smearing/overshoot at 60hz - it's decent for gaming (provided you're not an elitist who get anxiety if they don't have 144+hz with 1ms pixel response times).

    • Wow I'm quite surprised at that review @studentl0an

    • Is 55 exactly the same specs to 43?

Pretty sure that all the P8M series have the same panel tech and CPU driving them so they should all be close enough.

I should add there's a separate game mode in the settings that reduces the already tiny input lag to near instant.

I don't use it as I prefer the look of the 'smart HDR' preset which is disabled if gamemode is active. I'm fine with the input lag as is, and I'm pretty sensitive to that stuff. Even moving a mouse around feels fine. Maybe if I played FPS with a mouse and keyboard I would notice it, but playing console games on it was fine as is without game mode.

I haven't played a game on it in more than a year, so maybe things changed with updates (which it still gets), but it was really solid when I did play some games on it.

        • I'm more into movies and streaming 4K and getting the best possible clarity of picture.

But I have just bought Xbox One X which is 4K :)

  • I don't like fake colours or washed out colours or bad glare etc

    • I love fake colours and washed out colours and bad glare! The best

Without breaking the bank, good alternative. Either that or 43 s8 hisense

    • Yeah it will be a 2nd 4k TV; for the bedroom

  • Nobody?

  • JUST bought the 43p8m TCL for $250 on gumtree looks very good

  • Merged from LOVING MY NEW TV 43P8M

Just wanted to share my review, I've had this TV Few days, it's got decent picture quality, easy to setup and connect to my phone wifi hotspot.

Pretty straightforward settings to connect my Bluetooth headphones as well, screen cast was pretty simple as well.

Just shows you don't need high end TV to get some good features, TCL I'm very impressed, I'm yet to connect up to Xbox One X.

The sound is actually pretty loud and certain free to air channels show *Dolby audio** and you can definitely notice the quality difference on those HD tv channels.

43 inches is perfect for my small bedroom.

Got the TV off gumtree for $250 still has warranty and original receipt from previous owner.
