Most high end speakers brand only offer one year.

Not too sure why you are unhappy with getting an extra year warranty from them.

    • +2

Even KEF only gives you 2 years on their $4000 wireless active speakers.

    • +3

Little known fact is that if you purchase with an Amex card, they will double your warranty (by up to 1 year) so you can have a total of 3 years warranty on this.

      • Didn't think it was little known.

Also, same with several MC and Visa credit cards - just depends on your plan.

Let me correct myself to "rarely mentioned fact" then

  • Aren't their top of the range bookshelf speaker the S3000PRO?

    • Updated description although S3000PRO are more than 3 times the size of these.

      • +1

Yes, as they are top of the range. Even S2000PRO are above these.

    • Top of the range is the new Airpulse models that go for $2k hah

I returned a set of these because one of the drivers developed a rattle after a month or so. From looking around at other reviews I found a few other people saying the same. They were great until this point though, so if you get a pair that don't - they're very good

Awesome price. Thank you for posting. I just bought them!

Paid more than that price last year, pretty happy with them. Beautifully made for the price (much heavier than they look!) and come with lots of goodies like 4different input cables and a nice remote.

I've had these for about 4 months and no issues for me so far. They have a seriously lack of bass straight out of the box they loosen up after about 10 hours. I'd say the cheaper Edifiers probably give you almost as good sound quality but these things look far better than anything else in Edifiers range IMHO. For this price, they will be hard to beat unless you prefer the styling of some of the cheaper Edifier range.

For comparison, I use these as computer speakers and they replaced a stereo pair of Echo gen 3s. These Edifiers sound like proper hifi speakers where as the Echo's sound like computer speakers. The speaker in my living room are a pair of B&W 607 S2 Anniversary Editions and the Edifiers sound far closer to those than the Echo's. Just smaller in sound and sound stage but still great.

    • thanks for sharing.

was so close to getting them but the lack off base puts me off and i'll pass.
clarity is nice for sure but without base its meh

  • I bought this two years ago at the price of $250 from Amazon. They are good but it is lack of bass as many people mentioned.

  • Does anybody know how well the Voll speaker range compete with these ones?

    • Voll no longer do an active speaker but you can pair their new passive speakers with their new amplifier, both on back order. These Edifiers certainly have more bells and whistles.

Yeah I'm keen to get the P44 + S8 sub with a basic A100 amp for my study, but having never heard it, I'm not sure what to compare it to in terms of sound and if I will enjoy it or not tbh..

My mate has some Rokit 5s g3 and they sounded phenomenal, even without any sub, was looking for second hand ones, but they are still around $320+ for a pair (while the whole setup from Voll would be sub $500), but I've heard that the Rokits don't age too well either when compared to competition.

So just sussing other options of speakers where people have heard them and there are heaps of reviews on them already I guess, but if I don't find anything soon, gonna pull the trigger on Voll :)

Even buying an old amp/receiver off gumtree/facebook and the like can be pretty handy if you have the room. Plenty of input options and radio tuner if you like that sort of thing. If you happen to have a chromecast device that can also give older amps modern functionality. From what I can tell the Voll amp has a single input option so is perhaps geared to desktop or TV.

The price to quality ratio on the Volls is simply superb. They are a well made and simple bookshelf speaker at around $50-70 per speaker. That's pretty darn good. I prefer listening to the Volls over the Audioengine A5, and they sound much better than any other budget bookshelf speaker I have heard, such as the Sherwoods and the like you buy from a JB or Harvey Norman.

Can always start with the speakers and add a sub later depending on the room you're using them in, and whether you feel a sub is needed. We use our Volls for near field and that hasn't warranted a sub, and use different systems in larger rooms.

A fair few threads about them on here and plenty of folks can offer you their thoughts as well. I haven't heard the edifiers so can't comment.

            @cornbeef: Thanks heaps for that!

I have looked into other amps, but the A100 seems to be more stable when it comes to the mini-amp category and the larger amps, some of them are simply too big, especially the ones on marketplace/gumtree. I kinda just thought I'd cop this amp and upgrade later down if need be.

I do like a bit of bass when it comes to music, just thought the S8 would provide a fairly significant bump up to the quality and listening experience. Mind you, its for a small 2.5mx3m study, where I do spend a lot of my time. I plan on using them for near field listening too! :)

@cactusjuice: You certainly won't be losing out on the Voll amp and it looks like fun to play around with. Plus the Voll Rep chiefbodge is very helpful and supportive. Best of luck on the audio slippery slope.

  • I note they are only Bluetooth 4.1 not 5.0, do they have the Qualcomm aptX low latency chipset or equivalent… what's the latency like if connecting a source via BT and watching a video/movie on the phone/PC?

Shame the hockey puck remote is so bulky and ugly!

Edit: Price now appears to be $289 sold via Harris Technology

  • Now $240.79 for anyone following who is still interested.
