DeLonghi Undercutting Retailers - Saved Nearly $900 off Retail

I was shopping around for a new coffee machine and decided I needed the Delonghi PrimaDonna Elite Experience machine. Myer had it on sale at around $2800 until Sunday, but I noticed Delonghi was advertising it at $2699 as normal price. So I went into Myer hoping they would price match so I'd get the extra Myer One points but they wouldn't, but as I was showing the salesperson the online price a coupon popped up offering 10% off my first purchase with Delongi! So I said, well if it's that hard to price match down to $2699 you're surely not giving me a further 10% off that. BTW Myer's current retail price for this machine is now $3299. Online I went, coupon code of THANKS10 worked fine (tip: it only gives you 10% off the first item - but if you use WELCOME10 if will give you 10% of your whole order…found this out later, but that mistake only cost me about $20).

Final price $2429 = $870 savings.

Thought about putting this up as a deal, but I just think there's something weird going on with their pricing. And you get free delivery too.

So, more expensive than OP paid for local stock?

Damnnnn - I wonder if I’ll ever get to a position where I could afford to drop $2k+ on a coffee machine.

I like coffee, but no coffee to me is worth 2000 machine - which is not top end either.

    • simply divide the cost per days of your life/use

It's not call that for nothing :)

Myer has inflated prices, not surprising that some cost more than RRP from manufacturer direct.

I would have sold you one for $5000, so your savings is actually $2571!

    • I looked at every retailer. They all seemed to be close to the Myer price, but Delonghi way cheaper even before the 10% discount popped up.

  • Is that the same as https://www.binglee.com.au/delonghi-ecam-650-55-ms-primadonn… ?

Ah no, elite vs elite experience.

    • Yeah…nearly got caught out by that subtle difference.

  • Yowsers … at $2,500-odd I've got to drink a lot of coffee to earn back what I buy at the cafe and that's even before I've bought my own beans, grinder, milk, etc.

    • Pre-covid I was buying 2-3 coffees a day. I've saved an absolute motza over the past 12 months!!

  • Post this as a deal?

  • Your first mistake was getting a delonghi coffee machine for $2k+ when you can get something a million times better for half that.

    • I've had a Delonghi Magnifica for the past 10 years (for free…points) and it's been a trusty steed and I had it dialled in so it was producing coffees far better than most coffee shops. Not the absolute best, but I seldom ever needed it to be better. It is fixable and I can put in a bunch of new parts to make it near new for about $110, but this new machine you can dial in what you like almost to the ml…water, milk, temp, style and via an app too. Also like the idea of push button = get coffee. When I have guests over and they all want coffees, you're producing several cups of coffee, then need to switch the machine to steam mode and then froth up all the milk…takes ages!

  • Thanks for this, been keeping my eye out for deals on this higher end Delonghi machines.

Have you tried it out yet and if so are you happy?
