New Hyundai Tucson 2021 - Will It Be Good?

Not a car expert here, but sooner or later I might buy a SUV. RAV4 seems to be the most favourite SUV for the ozbers (Is it not?), but then I happened to see an article Hyundai newest Tucson will release soon this year..

It looks quiet legit, especially the modern interior panel..pretty much all touchscreens?

Do you think this can replace RAV4 as the most popular SUV when it comes out? By the look of it, this new Tucson will be more expensive than RAV4.

Unlikely, but not catching on fire would be a good start.

    • not catching on fire would be a good start.

i assume there has been some cases related to fire lately? :D

        Check the recall

        tl;dr

There is a risk of an engine compartment fire, even when the vehicle is turned off.

Affected vehicles need to be parked in an open space and away from flammable materials and structures, i.e. not in a garage.

      • Only 95,000 recalled

Perfect for winter to keep you warm.

I don't know if it will be the most popular SUV but it will be a great car no doubt.

  • It'll be somewhere between OK and Excellent, depending on lots of things.

    • I love all the stylish and modern touch in this car, but it might give more issues in long term

      • Long warranty though

  • I thought the CX5 was the most popular

    • don't think so..speaking of Mazda, I don't find it comfortable driving it. Feel a bit rough

      • Rough as in rough ride? Was it the diesel or petrol you took for a spin & the current model?

        They're very smooth to drive.

        • Drove cx9 of my mate's and yes the ride felt rough. It was petrol

The Hyundai Tucson gives a new meaning to the words "Hot car".

A 2021 build should be OK though

Hmmmm, I thought it looked oddly similar LOL

    • If anything it looks better than the Merc, although it's got the Mercedes face with a Peugeot SUV rear.

That Merc EQC being the one that killed the legitimacy of Wheels car of the year.
Goes to show you can churn out a crap car and buy your awards, corruption at its finest. Still to this day i've only ever seen 1 on the road and pretty sure it was a demo.

      • I saw one the other day here in Double Bay. Rear is alright, front I'm not so sure. It's still a prettier car than the new GLB they just released, that's a definition of a appliance on wheels.

I've been waiting for a release date and model info for these for the last 3 months but they still can't provide any hard details. It's really disappointing as we would like to buy one but our old car has started to throw in the towel and we'll need to buy a competitor's. It's really difficult to justify waiting when there's no date in sight.

    • I'm in the same situation. Love the styling of the new Tucson but I think that will be the higher end model. Seen other versions of the new Tucson where they don't have the digital instrument cluster and smaller infotainment. :(

If they don't bring it out with a decent hybrid drivetrain, it won't touch the RAV4 with sales. The main reason the RAV4 is selling well is because of hybrid, with majority of new buyers thinking of hybrid or electric engine options.

    • How much saving in fuel in hybrid car do you reckon?

RAV4 pricing lately has been crazy, maybe wait for at least next year to buy new car? assuming things get better and price will go down..

      • How will the price go down? When has RRP ever dropped of a new car? If anything it'll only get more expensive over time

There's no specific fuel saving amount. If it's a competitor car, it depends on the size of the hybrid battery, engine technology etc. Also depends on whether you're comparing like for like (eg RAV4 Petrol vs Hybrid is 2.0L vs 2.5L, not a fair comparison).

        • How will the price go down? When has RRP ever dropped of a new car? If anything it'll only get more expensive over time

Well i mean for the older model. Even now if you go the dealer, might not get good deal compare to before COVID happened.

  • I have a RAV4 Hybrid and have so far travelled nearly 10k and it is averaging 5.1 litres, I easily do 900km before I refill so I am very happy with that. It is so comfortable to drive, looks great the only thing I didn't like is the long wait to get it.

If Tuscan is going to be more expansive it will have to be exceptional good to beat the RAV4 as the poster above said it will need to have a decent hybrid drivetrain.

    • Opps. Wrong reply location.

especially the modern interior panel..pretty much all touchscreens?

I don’t believe that touchscreen is the way to go in a vehicle. You have to look where you are pressing your fingers and hope you don’t hit a bump before you press. Unlike physical buttons where you can feel your way to the correct button and press without looking.

Touchscreen are a cost cutting measure, you fit a zillion different buttons with each screen. Inevitably this means you need menus etc which end up requiring more presses/gestures than old school controls.and you are distracted from the road for longer.

    • Toyota copped a lot of flack for touch buttons for volume/track controls, then reverted back to dials.

Sure, many of our customers wouldn't be the most tech-inclined, but nor would Hyundai's

    • Agree with your opinion. I actually prefer some physical buttons for the same reasons you mentioned.

But it just looks cool to have all touchscreen panel lol.

I think the Korea version of new tucson 2021 even has a remote control that you can use to park the car, pretty fancy..but not sure about the safety. And don't think we will have that feature here in oz.

    • THIS 10x!!!
Car manufacturers have to stop doing this stupid trend.
It's distracting, it's lazy, it's cost cutting and it's going to be a maintenance nightmare.
I believe there's a bit of Apple-ism going on here, the same way apple does stupid shit and everyone follows them (headphone jack removal, glass on glass etc…) because they think Apple is successful due to that, car manufacturers seem to be following Tesla like that.
In my book it doesn't even look "modern" it just looks lazy. I much prefer the old school all physical buttons for controls that I use regularly with tactile feedback. I read that on some new cars seat controls and heated/cooled seats are hidden in menus as well, YUCK.

  • so it's been a few months are you still looking at the Tucson OP ?

    • hey, no, i ended up going with Kia Cerato lol…

      • i put a deposit down on one,

        a highlander 2.0lt diesel

list price was about 56,600 drive away, paying 53K plus a good price on trade in, so waiting for it to arrive, they said end of august but doesn't look like it will hopefully end of September and that would be 4 months

        • nice, congrats on your purchase!

I took a test drive for tucson petrol at that time, it was a nice car…but obviously, you don't want to pay that amount of money for an outdated engine like that - except if you have too much money and really love the car lol

But overall, buying the diesel one is the best decision if you want to go with this model of Tucson - so well done, hopefully your car will come in expected time!

          • @Taro Milk Tea: yeah… for some reason on release they only had the 2.0 lt petrol variant only,,

            the 1.6 turbo wasn't available.
the diesel hadn't been officially released

so who know when it'll come.

  • to my thinking the car is too expensive for what you get

here's a breakdown of how the options work:

    $35-$46 = fwd 2.0 poverty spec

    $43-50 = 4wd 1.6 turbo 'decent spec'

    $50-$52 = 4wd 2.0 diesel

    this is way way expensive

also i dont think it looks good

    • yeah, way too overpriced

      • dont get me wrong

this is a decent car with a good warranty and for about $45k you're getting a great 4x4 turbo 'large' sized compact suv

        but $45k???

i think they're all trying to push the large compact suv into the $40k+ range so that you 'poorer' people can stay with the range of subcompact suvs

eg. get a Venue or a Kona.

The days of a $35k SUV that's the complete package seems to be dead.

But what if you dont want a subcompact suv? I certainly dont want anything subcompact. well you gotta pay up.
