Repair Time Laptop Asus - Warranty Australia

Hey guys!

I bought the Asus Zenbook UX425 ends of December of 2020 and from last week the left speaker started to make some strange noise (crackling), I entered in contact with Asus and they asked me to send it to the repair service, but I'm afraid about the time to repair it.

Did anyone have experience with Asus warranty recently? (Especially in Melbourne and laptops)

Also, is there any chance of them replace it instead of repair? I just have it for around 40 days and It already has problem, I'm really disappointed with it.

Thanks guys!

  • Are they asking you to send it to ASUS or a repair centre?

Either case why not asks ASUS about how long it will tkae to replace a speaker in the laptop. If it's going to be too long then take it back to the retail shop you bought it from and say the repair will take too long and you want it replaced with a new one under the ACL. Make sure you get it in writing and print it out so you have a copy for the retail shop.

No matter what happens do NOT leave the laptop or send it anywhere without knowing how long it will take to get repaired or replaced as once its out of your hands you don't have it anymore until they send it back or you pick it up.

  • Before people start jumping on the ACCC bandwagon

If you have a minor problem with a product or service, the business can choose to give you a free repair instead of a replacement or refund. When you have a major problem with a product, you have the right to ask for your choice of a replacement or refund. For a major problem with a service, you can choose to receive compensation for the drop in value below the price paid, or a refund.

    • Correct, but you need to also read the section about time to repair as this is the issue, not if it is minor or major. It's a minor repair, but if the repair takes 2 months then what? No laptop for two months?

      • A single crackling speaker would be classed as a minor problem, if anyone says otherwise please i'd like to hear your reasoning.

Therefore the retailer is permitted to repair the laptop. Unfortunately yes that does mean they're allowed to do it in a reasonable time which would be anywhere up to 30 days i believe.

        • i dont know why the OP does not ask what the expected turn around time is

also no one is going to replace a laptop due to a dead speaker lol

its also up to the OP to have some alternate means to have access to a pc or laptop while his is being repaired

  • I entered in contact with Asus and they asked me to send it to the repair service

I'd probably start there…. Sound good?

    • If only everyone thought like that 🤫😂

  • I talked with the Asus Support this morning again, as I couldn't fix the audio problem. Follow the video:

    https://youtube.com/shorts/eWoknrIZ3hw

They created a RMA order and a StarTrack label (Express), which they will pick up it at my address today. Also they asked me 10 business days to fix the issue.

I would like they replace the laptop, but I think they'll fix it, because the delivery address is "Total Solutions".

Now I just have to wait for the StarTrack pick up and the time to return it to me.

    Thanks!

  • My issue isn't them replacing a faulty speaker, it's more to do with a heavy-fisted person breaking all of the plastic tabs opening the laptop to do the repair.

    • Thanks for letting me worried 😂

    • I opened the case. It's not likely to break opening.

  • Hey, I actually have the exact same issue with the warranty expiring in a few days. I was just about to pay for the 2 year extra extension.

Also have a zenbook. One speaker crackled months ago so I set the balance so there's only one speaker. The other one started which was super annoying. A few days later the battery wasn't working so it motivated me enough to open the case up. Battery cable disconnected. Cleaning a bit of iron fillings off the speaker fixed the crackle. I couldn't get the other one working. There's no continuity on the speaker cable so I left it as that so I don't get blamed for warranty. AC charger died months ago too but live on a boat so DC charger has worked.

Also in the same situation of not wanting to wait with no laptop. Have a huge boat job to do soon so hopefully the 10 day turn around fits.
