Hyundai i30N Performance - Buy new and wait or buy used now.

I've been pondering getting a new car for the last 4-6 months. I mainly couldn't decide the style of car I wanted (between a hot hatch or 4x4. Don't even ask).

I think I'm pretty set on a Hyundai i30N performance however there seems to be no stock left at the moment. Buying a new one will be at least 4 months before delivery. I have found a used 2018 model that I'm contemplating buying but I can't decide what's the better option.

Buying new
Pros - New car warranty, updated model coming
Cons - New car tax, long wait

Buying user
Pros - Car is ready, after market wheels and tyres, 10k saving
Cons - Only 2 and half years left on new car warranty, has 1 previous owner,

Does anyone currently own a Hyundai i30N performace? Any reviews on it?

Brand new seems to be $45,300, with a $500 gift card
Used - 2018 model is $39,990 plus stamp duty = $41,560 drive away

How is that a no-brainer, and why do you state "new car tax"… That's less than $4k difference between a 2018 model and a 2021 model…

This used one, complete with windscreen decal, screams "thrashed" to me

    • Brand new with lux pack is closer to $49k drive away but I get your point.

But you're then not comparing apples and apples

Either way that's around $7k for 3 years worth of driving… Plus brand new won't need tyres, brakes, etc etc

Kinda makes the new one look pretty good value really

  • Buy a Cerato GT for $35k and pocket the change

What lmao, they're very different cars

Cerato GT is more akin to the Hyundai i30 N-Line, which is just the turbo, and then some sporty aesthetic. The Hyundai i30N is an actual hot hatch.

      • My mistake, thanks for pointing it out.

That said, the GT is quite impressive from a value standpoint. Might not be as quick but it's a great car.

If you're buying a car of passion (don't confuse this with feelings of wannabe power flex), that is you absolutely love the car, the story, the brand, the build, the look, then you always buy brand new when brand new is possible. It doesn't matter if it is a 4 months wait because you will keep this and love it for years.

Ask yourself if the car is your lifestyle. If you're just trying to fill the void and just trying to get the most power for your budget then forget it. Just buy the Cerato GT as mentioned above and save money.

  • If you were deciding between a 4x4 and a hot hatch there’s a good chance your other option will tickle your fancy again before too long.

    Two options:
Just do it, buy now, or
Find an older hot hatch for half the price and mod it until you are bored and then go 4x4

  • Why the i30N performance OP?

Just curious , out of all the Hot Hatches / Warm Hatches out there available right now.

What made you want to choose the I30N?
