Credit Card Charge Back (Refund Issue with LEGO)

long story short, it took ages for those son of bxxxtches at Lego website to process a return and 'refund'.

The parcel was returned in last December, the order status is showing refund has been processed. However I still have not received the refund.

I am considering a credit card charge back, but i have never tried chargeback before. Not sure how it works and if it will work.

Anyone could comment on this please?

I use the Citi premier card.

Have you tried calling them via Customer Service?

Yeah, that's not at all how chargebacks work. They have no bearing on your credit report, or anything else for that matter.

    • ummm this has nothing to do with a charge back.

Have you called and spoken to them?

Yes. They said “What did OzBargain say when you asked them?”

      • They said “I should be less opaque and communicate my problem clearly and not half truths”.

    • I certainly did.. and many times.

Before you do a chargeback you need to have made an effort to resolve the issue with the merchant, which would involve contacting Lego to find out what's happening.

If Lego state that the refund has already occurred, or if they are otherwise unhelpful at doing the refund then this will be a slam dunk for a chargeback. Just contact the bank, tell them what's occurred and what Lego has said, and that should be it.

If Lego does process the refund after the chargeback, the bank will catch that and tie the two things together and cancel out the chargeback.

Don't leave it too long - there are limits on how long you can wait (although you are still safely within the time limit)

    • I have spoken and emailed to them many times. The reps responded nicely, but they just did not do what they promised. The purchase was made in last November, the parcel was returned in December, they promised they would refund the money in January, but I still have not seen the money (although the order status has not been marked as refund). I sent another email to them yesterday, but will probably have to talk to the bank. Thank you for your kind advice.

  • What was wrong with the Lego that you needed to return it?

      It arrived in pieces

    • They have a 90 day return policy. Covers change of mind etc

Box said, "9 to 99 years". OP didn't want to spend that long assembling it.

  • Charge back with Citi premier is pretty easy. There is a form you download off the website - fill in on pen and paper. Then I printed all the emails showing tried to resolve with merchant. And posted it back. There is also an upload back option if you have a scanner. They didn’t even tell me the charge back was resolved - I just saw the amount show up. And it was pretty quick

    • Thank you. It's exactly I would like to know.

  • Generally you only have 120 days after the transaction process date to lodge a chargeback, so the clock is ticking.

    • Thanks a lot.

I only have ~30 days to lodge a chargeback now.

If you do a chargeback they will never deal with you again .
If you buy smartly they will cancel all your orders .
As you found out if you return something they will not refund or make a time consuming chase that is ridiculous .
I never return anything but my orders received during the time before the cancelled all my orders were way below par in major damaged boxes .
The Customer Service Management really are Scumbags .

    • I remember I read a comment under a Lego deal that someone has been chasing up for the refund for ages.

I am not sure if that was you or another unfortunate buyer, but obviously you understand my frustration very well.

I sent another email to them yesterday to request proof of refund as I have not received it. I will give them a few more days to respond. If they still cant sort it out, I am left no choice other than lodge the chargeback.

Check your cc statement and check again. It's possible that you missed it.

    • Checked again and again. I wish I just missed it, but no…

It is very frustrating to deal with Lego.

      • depending on your credit card issuer setup and how lego.com refunds process, it may appear next to the original transaction with the same day.

        • lol

I also thought about that possibility, and that's what i meant by 'checked again and again', but sadly no…
