            1. Would of, could of, should of - like wtf, how is this so common

  • My goodness, that description is cringeworthy. And the consistent misspelling of “practise” doesn’t inspire confidence.

      I think that confirms that this is an American English grammar book. They don't use 'practise' in America. Both the noun and verb forms are spelt with a 'c'.

      The book's basically useless in Australia. Nothing worse than having to unlearn something you learnt incorrectly.

      Writing for The New Yorker in 2005, Anthony Lane had this to say of Yoda’s “screwy” syntax: “Break me a f * cking give.” A funny line, timing-wise, but, as the linguist Mark Liberman pointed out at the time, not actually all that Yoda-esque. (“A f * cking break, give me,” was one more Yoda-ish alternative offered in a blog post Liberman wrote on the subject at the time.)
