Baby Safety Gate - 4meters Opening

Hi All,

We have a room with opening of 4meters wide which we were looking to use it as a play room.. Instead of buying a playpen i was looking for a safety gate of 4 meters with is sturdy .

Could anyone recommend any gates they have used? I am unsure if the pressure gates would hold something which is 4m long.

Thanks

I think you are after a fence/barrier, not a gate at 4 meters.

You need to purchase a large square play pen with a gate. Leave one of the corners unassembled and spread the pen out wide with the gate in the middle. You will need to diy the fixing to the door frame or wall at either end.

    • that sounds like a nightmare, if you use the gates i've used that require the tension of the opposite walls and the gate shut to remain tight.

It works. I did it when my kids were toddlers. Purchase something like this but keep it spread out wide. This example spreads to 4.8m.

You just need to use some ingenuity to fix to door frame or wall.

3 metres is the max for this, close!

    3.7m

    • if you buy two of these, you could use the extra extenders on the first gate to reach 4m? But then the safety of the gate is probably in question…

        safety is the issue

    • Is that the same model that Carl Williams had as a baby ?

They are let out for an hour per day to get some sunshine

        • As long as they're not on a play date with Mrs Johnson's baby and there are no exercise bicycles around…

Doubt you'll find a 4m gate. The hinges would be huge. You need a fence.

    • You need a fence.

      Agreed…. ↓↓↓

You don't need a gate, just set up an electric fence…

They learn pretty quickly at that age…

      Yeah, nah.

  • We were looking for a few wider gates (nowhere near 4m however) and the options for 2m+ are slim, mostly those roll-out types. And almost all ones that need to be affixed to the wall (not the tension types - they're limited in how wide you can make them, even with extensions).

Consider why you want the baby gate. We ended up not bothering with most areas. Personal opinion, but if they're young enough that you need to gate them in/out, you probably should be keeping a closer eye on them anyway. We ended up only gating our laundry where the cat toilet was. Only kitchen cupboard that was latched was the sink where we keep some cleaning products. TV was tied to the back of its shelf.

Above links are to examples of products we used.

  • Could you use something like this, with panels?

You might need to buy enough panels to configure it in a shape other than just straight (i.e. like some of the photos show) so that it's a bit sturdier. I imagine a 4m straight line could get a bit wobbly!
