Are they any particular suburbs to avoid?

any reason why M's are to avoid?
i was thinking a new property in Mooroobool, but I've heard that there are issues with storm damage being a strong possibility.

Do your research on storm surge and flood zones across the lower parts of Cairns. In the higher parts of Mooroobool you will get a lot of traffic noise.
Also, look at home insurance costs, as they can be extreme in some of the coastal areas of Cairns and northern beaches.
+1 for the insurance comment. Looks hard to get up there.
Wouldn't worry, house prices double every 7 years. Worst case you can refinance to pay for insurance and still be way ahead.
Cairns house prices haven't moved much in the past 10 years.
Avoid suburbs that begin with "M" is the general rule here, I would probably include
Woree in this grouping as well.
Kanimbla, Park Ridge, Edge hill, Whitfield, Brinsmead, Redlynch, maybe even Stratford would be my pick.
After that Northern beaches, then Southside.
I am a bit OCD with asbestos houses so would also select based on building age.
