Rice Dispenser/Storage for 25kg Bags

I’m looking for an airtight rice dispenser for the large bags of rice.
My hubby thought it was a good idea to put it in those clip lock storage bins. Not really airtight and those little moths somehow found their way in.
watching him throwing out 25kg of rice was sad.

    • Yeah I’ve got one of these that I bought ages ago. Works well

    • Why is it no surprise that the Queensland locations are all in/around Sunnybank…

  • sun the rice n upcycle them :D

Best idea I ever had was to use the sous vide vacuum sealer and put the rice into about 2 or 3kg lots. Nothing eating through those vacuum bags :)

if you have bugs in your grain and there were in a container… the likely hood of those bugs being something called weevils is quite high and likely already there when you bought the rice.

    • ^^ This OP.. Dirty rice to begin with or their eggs already in the rice and they just hatched.

Moths don't really carry any diseases. Actually, they would have added protein!

    • They just float to the top when you add the water.

  • I'm with @Archi on this one. Lost of grains have bugs and eggs already in them. If they're left undisturbed in conducive conditions then they hatch and appear.

Washing the rice (prior to cooking) or alternatively leaving them out in the sun so that you can store them again, takes care of the problem if they're infested.

There is already eggs in your rice.
If you're seeing insects appear I believe you need to look at seeing your rice consumption; you're probably not eating rice fast enough hence gives them time to hatch so lower your purchase from 25kg to 10kg.
Or what I do now is keep my rice in the freezer.

  • Thanks for all the replies!
