Need Help with TV Insurance Claim

The screen of my LG 75UH656T was damaged recently and it is luckily covered under insurance.

The repair is expensive so they are offering to replace it with LG75UN8100PTB.

Is it like to like replacement?

Repair cost is $2800 but they only want to do cash settlement of $1600 if I don't proceed with like to like replacement.

My search shows LG 75UH656T is 200 refresh rate whereas LG75UN8100PTB is only 100 motion rate, so definitely downgrade model.

  • Could very well be that your model is no longer available.

Would you he happy with the new TV? Have you done and research on it?

      • Hmmm.. well sounds like you're going to be losing any which way. Just a case of pick your poison perhaps

Can a 200hz model be bought for $1600 these days? TV prices are always dropping

If that true it's worse than you think as motion rate is not the same measurement as refresh rate. Motion rate is a Samsung measurement and is generally double the native refresh rate. So motion rate of 100 is probably around refresh rate of 50. On the other hand I don't believe your old unit has a native refresh rate of 200. There's probably some trickery/marketing speak going on there as well.

        • Here are some key difference I identified via search

          Old Model
          Refresh rate:200
          Audio Output: 60W
          USB: 2 x USB2.0 and 1 x USB3.0
          Energy Rating: 6 star
          Headphone output: Yes
          Digital (Optical) Audio Output: Yes
          Component/Composite Input; Yes

          Replacement Model
          Motion rate:100
          Audio Output: 20W
          USB: 2 x USB2.0 and no USB3.0
          Energy Rating: 5 star
          Headphone output: No
          Digital (Optical) Audio Output: No
          Component/Composite Input: No

          • @Ash-Say: Higher does not mean better.

            Read this article (https://www.cnet.com/news/ultra-hd-4k-tv-refresh-rates/) especially

no 4K TV has a native panel refresh rate higher than 120Hz

            • @trex:

no 4K TV has a native panel refresh rate higher than 120Hz

I'd heard that but I'm not into TVs (haven't had one for almost 10 years now) so wasn't sure if it's still the case but it's why I suggested there was something about the claimed 200 refresh rate of the OP's current TV.

              • @apsilon: Yes, sometimes it's a case of clever but misleading advertisement on the manufacturer's part :D

75UH656T Is about three years old. $1600 sound about right.

  • What was the conclusion with your kitchen sink?

Going to get handyman to reinstall it.

    • You stalker! :D

      • Dinosaurs ruled.

  • The 75UN8100PTB is only a 50hz TV. Do you play any consoles on it? If so I would be looking for a 100hz TV.

    • Yes PS will be played.

      • Well you aren't going to get a 75" 100hz TV for anything close to $2k. The LG 75UH656T was a pretty pricey TV at about $4k even when end of life, whereas the LG 75UN8100PTB they are offering you now is an entry level budget TV. I would say they are not like-for-like.

What does your policy say about the repairs or payout?

The insurance payouts are NOT based on RRP, but commercial prices that the insurance company can buy at. For example the $1600 payout is probably the price from JB HiFi commercial or Hardly Normal commercial division.

I would find a comparable TV (200Hz, etc) and go back and say that a comparable TV is xyz and it's available from ABC for $zzz as this has 200HZ and the old one had 200hz etc etc BUT they will come back with the payout from the commercial divisions and be lower than you can buy the TV at.

If you want the TV get the insurance company to buy the TV as you will not be able to buy the TV at the payout price, unless you have access to the commercial divisions of JB or HN etc. I know this from dealing with Allianz payout for shed contents a few years ago and the payout price were from Bunnings commercial area as I was sent the quote….

  • Probably worth reading your PDS. I.e. if they actually have to replace the model for exact specs, if it's market value, if its depreciated value etc etc.

    Update

The claim has been settled and I was offered Nano91.

    • Hi, do you get balance of Warranty or full New Warranty?

    • Bit late to reply, but NICE.

10 bit colour, 100hz panel, full array local dimming, now that's a good panel.

Amazing how much insurance companies rely on people just rolling over and taking whatever they offer.
