Apple Airpod Warranty and ACL

Hey Guys,

Bought an Airpod from Officeworks about 20 months back and suddenly there was a fault with the MIC ( other people can not hear me properly)

I tried to get it fixed by taking it to OW and they are refusing to do that saying it is out of warranty.

Will I be able to get it fixed or get a replacement under ACL. Thank you for your input.

how did you manage to buy one Airpod in the first place?

    Go to Apple

    Warranty is 12 months
(headphones bundled with a phone its only 6 months)

Apple MIGHT help you if you go them directly but given the price you paid and the time you have had them you are not likely to get the outcome you want.

      Warranty is 12 months

It is not reasonable to have to buy new airpods every 20 months…

        Good luck to OP :)
I doubt he is going to get very far.

I had an iPod ( yes long time ago in a galaxy far far away) and after a couple of years it developed a fault where the audio stopped whenever the screen dimmed. I took it to the apple store and got a replacement with no fuss even though it was well out of warranty. So OP once your ACL heals you should go into an apple store at least try to explain the fault to them and see what they say.

  • both Airpod(s) have its own mic, are you sure both are faulty? As you can use one Airpod at a time (as each has its own mic).

I think only 1 is faulty. So the caller on the other-side can not hear properly ..
When I called apple they said to buy a new one and send the old one and they can give me discounted price.

  • Try Apple. They might just replace it under ACL.

Don’t go to Officeworks for Apple products.

Go directly to a Apple store. This also applies to JB etc. Unless they make a fuss don’t start quoting consumer laws, just ask for it to be looked at.

OW are correct that it is out of warranty, since Apple’s manufacturer’s warranty on AirPods is only 1 year, but always remember that a manufacturer’s warranty is in addition to ACL.

According to Apple’s website (linked above), Apple products are covered for a minimum of 24 months under ACL, so they should replace the AirPods free of charge under ACL if they determine that the AirPods are faulty and the fault was not caused by accidental damage. Don’t worry about the fact that it says contact the seller to request a remedy under ACL. I’ve had Apple devices replaced under ACL when I went to an Apple Store directly (even though they were not the original retailer) without any issues.
