NordVPN Won't Offer a Refund

Bought NordVPN so I could get NBA league pass at a decent price, knowing I could just get a refund up to 30 days after. Had to go through live chat for this, so the day after I bought it I just asked for a refund and thought that's all done. Got a message from my bank saying I've been charged for another month of NordVPN, contact their live chat again and they said I did request a refund but because I didn't give feedback on why I was cancelling they thought I wanted to continue.

Now have been charged for 2 months. Live chat said I would get an email from their billing department in 2-3 days but did not say if I would be getting a refund or not. Not sure what my options are, the first $17 payment has already gone through and the second month for $17 is now pending as well.

UPDATE: Will be getting a full refund thanks all, enjoy your free trials.

    Just do a chargeback.

    • It's from my com bank account, the only thing looks like I can dispute it, doesn't give me an option to charge back and I have to wait for the second payment to go through (can't do anything during pending according to their website)

      • Go to a bank branch

      • u can still do chargeback if you paid with your debit card, apparently…

        • Good news, I'll give them a call first thing tomorrow and see what they say about it I guess, was just going through the automated question/response bot

How should I go about this?

Don't be so cheap next time…. You used the service, it worked for what you wanted to do. Next time just pay for 1 month and cancel the service, instead of trying to scam them for a 'free' service.

    • +2

They advertise a 30 day trial period? Not sure how that's me scamming them but okay

      • +11

But it's not a trial. It's a 30 day money-back guarantee and they clearly say this

Try NordVPN risk-free for 30 days
If you are not 100% satisfied, cancel anytime before 03/23 and get your money back. No hassle, no risk.

I'm finding it hard to see how you hadn't been 100% satisfied. Did the product not work as you wanted? Did you not VPN in to another country and get your NBA league pass at a cheaper rate? Sounds like it all worked to me.

So yes, asking for a refund when it did what you wanted, is trying to 'scam' them.

@JimmyJohnson: Theres a difference between ethical bargains and unethical bargains.

@Ughhh: I'm okay with people knowing I used NordVPN for one thing then cancelled like many before me

            @JimmyJohnson:

Getting upset at people using a free trial on a bargain website. Classic.

Again, its not a trial. Its a 30 day money-back guarantee. There is a difference.

But you are correct, this is a bargain website, not a scam the company website.

They're not saying I'm not allowed to use it once and then just cancel

They kind of are, Remember them saying this

If you are not 100% satisfied, cancel anytime before xx/xx and get your money back. No hassle, no risk.

Did it not work? Had you not been satisfied when you used the VPN service?

Oh but it did work, and you had been satisfied with the service that got you discounted NBA league pass? So hmmm not really entitled to a refund under this clause.

they are saying they just needed feedback after I wanted to cancel for them to do it

            which you failed to do.

Have you CANCELLED the service yet? Otherwise you'll be charged a 3rd month ;)

@JimmyJohnson: receipts? Otherwise you're just lying to try and justify your sense of privilege.

Get off your high horse and stop FREELOADING HAHA!

                • @adanbro: Receipts of what? Not sure what showing money coming out of my bank account would prove?

                @JimmyJohnson:

                it's a trial.

On their website, it says "30-day money-back guarantee".

                No mention of trial…

                • -2

@jv: See below, go bold the part where the guy quotes free trial but it's still not a trial I guess, you guys are just too good.

"use the free trial for 30 days". Sorry to burst your bubble better luck next time on your white knight crusade good sir

                https://nordvpn.com/risk-free-vpn/

                It says

Try the NordVPN free trial for 30 days. If you are not 100% satisfied, cancel anytime before xx/xx and get your money back.

Oh look that 'trial' is just the money-back guarantee if your not 100% satisfied. So had you not been 100% satisfied?

                Sorry bud it's a trial

Sorry bud, its a money-back guarantee if your not 100% satisfied. Clearly says this on the website.

Oh also, take note of this too

Can I use my free VPN trial more than once?
Unfortunately, to prevent abuse of our generous money-back system, we don’t allow customers repeat free trials.

                • -2

@JimmyF: Why does it mention you can't use a repeat free trial if it's not a free trial?

                  • +3

@JimmyJohnson: You mean, why you can't use their money-back refund? Hmmm wonder why they wouldn't allow people to use it more than once ;)

                    • @JimmyF: The part where you quoted it saying free trial? Don't try change the words now I'm sorry you got caught out. Just try abit harder next time and I'm sure you'll win

@JimmyF: This guy looks scummy but to be fair NordVPN does appear to actually advertise what OP is saying.

                  Check:
                  https://nordvpn.com/risk-free-vpn/

"3. Choose what’s best for you
The VPN free trial ends in 30 days. Then you can either choose to continue using NordVPN or cancel your subscription and get your money back. Easy!"

I'd interpret that as OP has. So depending where/what you read it's more like unclear or misleading advertising as in other places they talk about it being more like a money back guarantee then a free trial.

It doesn't really bother me what you call it, I'm confused why other people care if it's a trial or money back or whatever. I was just under the impression that you cancel it and would get a refund

                    @DingoBilly:

or cancel your subscription and get your money back.

If it was a free trial, you wouldn't be paying any money to begin with…

              • +2

@JimmyJohnson: You're incredibly hung up on the word "free trial", while ignoring everything after that explains the terms and what makes it a "free trial".

The general definition of "free trial" implies no payment to test the service. Think Amazon prime, streaming services etc.

                • @Ughhh: It doesn't really matter what you call it to me, I was just calling it what they advertise it as (i have shown proof of this already), my main issue was after asking for a refund they denied it and kept charging me because I didn't give feedback that was my only problem call it whatever you would like I was just calling it what they call it themselves. It was others who in this thread refuse to acknowledge that if a company themselves calls it a free trial, advertises it as a free trial, then is shocked if a consumer also calls it this? I'm confused about that. I definitely agree using the words "free trial" by them is misleading.

It is interesting to see all the people against using this method on here, when this website is exactly where I found out about it. I guess some people like jumping on the high horse on the odd occasion.

So, not only are you abusing NordVPN’s guarantee, you are now wasting your employers time. Nice way to double down.
