The most import spec is suspiciously missing. Write speed?

    • +3

Ultra slow. Good for occasional backup use but not large transfers.

Also gets extremely hot to the touch so be very careful.

        A Sandisk "feature".

          Good for winter!

Second that. I'm terrified of touching this thing after a long copy session

    • 10mb/s on average

        10 millibits?

        • per season

About 30-35Mbs. Get really hot though.. I have a 64GB version.

    • anything metallic will get hot.

Bet it doesn't make streaks of fire when it hits 88Mbps!

      • This based on your experience or reviews?
My Samsung 128GB Bar doesn't get more than mildly warm, and it's twice the speed of this thing.
Heat definitely seems to be a Sandisk thing though, same with HP on laptops… Though I'm sure some fanboys will disagree.

I don't understand this drive though, going with Next Gen connector, claiming USB 3.1, but then the read/write speeds are woeful, even compared to USB3.0.

        • I have the same Samsung bar, but 64GB. That thing gets very hot.

    • I have the 64GB version, file copy sustained writes start at 25-30MB/s and drop to around 15 after the cache is full.
      Copying a 5.87GB file averaged 16.36MB/sec

      • those are USB 2.0 speeds. And they advertise USB 3.1.

It's actually less since USB 2.0 can reach 60MB/s.

        • Yes, that's true.
Read speeds are good at least.

  • Why is it so slow for a type c

    • Type C is mostly just a physical plug spec, has nothing to do with minimum speed.

      • Why is it so slow for USB 3.1?

        • +1

Again 3.1 has no minimum speed defined.
They're using cheap (ie. slow) chips.
