Refunding eBay Plus Membership

I signed up to the ebay plus memebership thinking I can stack the $50 voucher with PLUSDL22 voucher.

But turns out ebay doesn't allow stacking.

I tried chatting to one of their agents but they're refusing to refund the membership even though I joined 30mins ago.

I rarely use Ebay so this $50 voucher is completely useless to me.

Anyone know of any way to get a refund?

  • You could list the voucher on classifieds here for $40 or so and if successful in selling, your eBay plus will only cost you a few dollars for the year and someone will save 10 bucks on an eBay transaction - win win!

How is losing ten bucks and time a win?

rarely using eBay is not the same as never using eBay. Buying one or two items eligible for free shipping will offset the cost. If OP flat out didn't use eBay then its not a win win, but there is value to be had for occasional users.

The voucher is tied to the account

  • the voucher isn't attached to the account?

    Got what you paid for

  • Just keep chatting to new agents, one might eventually let you refund.

Otherwise just buy something you were going to need anyway (new phone cable? garbage bags? cat food? toothpaste?)

Why do you think you are entitled to a refund?

Also, always remember, OzBargain is your friend, 2 second check would have unearthed this chat:

I think your best course of action is to chalk it up to experience and move on. Go treat yourself to something for $50.

Just order groceries from Coles ebay and use your voucher

use/dont use ebay plus free for a year…

  • Probably you can buy an apple airpod for $99/Nintendo Switch for $299 next time, then offload it on gumtree with $50 added to recover your membership fee.

No this is the problem you can only use it on full price items

      • You can always resell the $99 airpods for $150 ..

  • Good luck. I clicked on free trial nothing happened. Im now getting emails saying I owe $49 for ebay plus even though I never even had the chance to opt in or out. I've called them and chatted online with them. They refuse saying I'm a member even though I got zero emails about it and never agreed to anything other then clicking free trial that went nowhere. They promise to call back but I'm yet to receive that call. Ebay can go eff theirselves now.

    • Support is hit and miss, mostly miss.
Last support I requested they promised to get back to me via email. That was more than 1 month ago now. I sent an email to support for an update:

We know you need to get your question answered quickly, and in most cases, you'll get a reply from us within 24 to 36 hours. But depending on the question you asked and how many other questions we have to answer right now, it might take up to 72 hours for you to hear back from us.

      Then I got :

Thank you for taking the time to send your email. However, the address you sent the email to is not available to contact eBay AU Customer Service.

With only 30 days to use this voucher, probably you can buy Woolworth gift card using the voucher, at least you can get back the real value of $50.

    • No this is the problem you can not use it on gift cards

  • I tried it for many weeks, no positive outcome.

Signed up to Ebay Plus to take advantage of one of the PLUS only promotions. Sometime during the sign up process the item I wanted to buy was pulled from the promotion (even though it still appeared in the promo search page). Ebay refused to give me the discount or refund my membership. Didn't even reply to the complaint I made following the saga either. Since then there have been barely any worthwhile PLUS promotions. Far less than their were last year. Everything I have wanted to buy has been far cheaper on Amazon. Ebay is dead to me.

  • This is the type of OzB forum post that should have been asked before the transaction took place, not after the fact…

    • How about instead of victim blaming we suggest that ebay stop marketing this as

Instant $50 voucher to spend on anything

  • Probably not super useful but here is the terms of conditions page on eBay for ebay plus

    https://pages.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/plusTC/

I see a lot of people here having issues with it, I know for me when they charged me another year, I quoted the T&C 2.3 in the link (you get 14 days to cancel after a renew) and they refunded it promptly. Not OPs case, but incase anyone needs the same.

  • Yeah I agree this is dodge they clearly call it a voucher but then just give you a discount code instead

    $50 eBay Plus Voucher

Instant $50 voucher to spend on anything

    Voucher valid for 30 days

  • Yeah I was not impressed when they removed FlyBuys, cancelled the premium phone support, would remove free shipping if I got a lower-priced offer from the seller and, while they happily grandfathered in the bad stuff, wouldn't give me a $5 voucher each month like they were giving new customers.

I complained long and hard and got nowhere. I only got two suggestions:

    1. The reason we're having this conversation is because eBay is not Amazon. Do yourself a favour and buy Amazon Prime next time - the better customer service trumps the slightly more restrictive returns policy.

    2. If you're prepared to be the bigger <blank>, you can use eBay as a video rental library. Buying eBay Plus DVDs/Blu-rays/games and returning them before 30 days. The reason I say bigger <blank> is because you are hurting the sellers more than eBay itself. Nevertheless I did manage to run a few returns through my policy - the quality of eBay is surprisingly low - so there's a lot you want to return even if you aren't treating them as a rental library.

Good luck. Sorry you had to find out this way eBay sucks. :-(

  • It is literally a reply to the first comment that you cannot stack the $50 code with another code.

Thank you to all those people pointing out that I should have known and it was my fault.
I get it. I (profanity) up by believing something that is way too good to be true…

But why does eBay have this kind of hard ass policy? Is eBay Plus that bad that this is the only way to report to stockholders that people are using memberships?

  • can the $50 be used on auctions?
