Laptop Recommendations - Moving from Mac to Windows

I have some very specific requirements for a laptop. This will be used for my business.
I currently have a Macbook pro 16 inch 2019, but I need a windows computer to run an application and parallel is not an option.

So this is what I am looking for:

  • 15 inch screen minimum
  • Must have USB 3.0 & ethernet
  • Min Core i7-7567U (4Ghz, 2 cores) (but would prefer to future proof rather than going minimum requirement)
  • Good battery life, comparable to Macbook pro
  • Max $3k

Optional:

Good audio quality (love the macbook Audio)

What I have in mind currently:

It seems gaming laptops is the way to go if I want all the ports built in.

  • I don’t think you will like a gaming laptop if you’ve come from a MacBook. The weight, and bulk will Presley out you off.

As for processor, never heard of that one. I’m any case, I would no way be looking at 7th gen if that’s what you meant. 11th gen Intel is pretty good for single core performance. M1 will smash it on multi core though.

I would recommend a Dell XPS 15. Won’t have the port, but you can just buy a Thunderbolt adapter and have all the ports. I have an XPS 13 and the quality is on par with MacBooks I’ve had previously.

For reference, I went from a MacBook to a Razer Blade 15 and wasn’t happy with the weight increase, or the fact the power brick was large.

Use code HONEY7 which stacks for an additional 7% off.

    • Thanks for the code!

I already find the Macbook really heavy.
The ports were important to me, but I guess it's a choice between performance and convenience…

  • Get a Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 3 with FHD screen (500nits), on sale <$3k

    • Screen quality looks good. However Lenovo makes me a little anxious, I have always found the built quality of the outer shell to be poor.

      • I probably know what you're talking about, which in that case Dell would probably piss you off as well.

  • You could consider the HP envy 15 OLED from the HP student store. It has similar specs to macbook pro and similar styling. Would likely have better quality control than a Dell Xps.

If you don't have access to the student store, You could also try your luck with the cheaper Dell refurb store. You can get a xps 9500 15 with top end specs for around 3k. They have a return policy in case you are not satisfied. I would go for the white model to avoid the finger print smudges the black ones are notorious for

  • Razer blade 15 or razer book. I think 1 model has ethernet port.

  • Dell XPS 17" - its as close to a MacBook 16" as you can get ?
