Renpho Mini Massage Gun

Hi all,

I am after a massage gun to keep my back pain at bait (I do go to physio and acupuncture and try to be healthy but I still suffer from back pain)

I would like to buy either Mini Massage

https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08JZ7TL94/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f…

Or

The c5 https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08C298RYR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_f…

It seems like the first one as a bit more power, is lighter has 5 speeds instead of 4, better battery and comes with a case.

The c5 only advantage seems to be the noise level (which I don’t really care about as I’ll use at home) and around $8 cheaper (but no case)

Have you got experience with any of these guns? Both have excellent reviews.

Thanks for any suggestions/opinion given

If its for your back I wouldn't recommend either of these. These mini massage guns are great for the front portion of your body only (I have a slightly different renpho mini massager)

I would instead recommend you look into something like: https://www.amazon.com.au/Massager-RENPHO-Shoulder-Electric-…

Got one a few weeks ago and its been absolutely awesome for my back and shoulders

    Goodluck

  • Thanks! I do have a massage chair as well but wanted something less tbulky . I might look into the one you recommend. Thanks

    • Yeah I also have one of them strap-on massage chairs too. The massager I recommended above is wayyyyyy better because you can target certain areas and decide on the intensity through the straps.

It depends on why you are a having back pain as to whether I'd recommend any kind of massage gun.

Do you have tight hip flexors which are pulling your pelvis out of alignment?
Do you have tight hamstrings which are pulling your pelvis out of alignment in the other way?
Is it caused by the psoas muscle?
    Is it upper back?

Depending on what the cause is, a massage gun of any sort may at worst cause more pain.

    • Thanks for your input, your comment and chamzoo make sense. Cheers

      • I went through years upon years of back pain, from all different causes. It is horrible. Debilitating. But ultimately the best thing to do is to find the cause, and fix it. What worked best for me was core stability from Stuart McGill's Big 3, but even that is unhelpful advice if the cause of your back pain isn't from core stability issues.

A massage gun may help alleviate some of the issues causing the back pain, but it will only ever be a tool to supplement whatever else you do. Work on finding the cause, and fixing it by providing your body with the strength to overcome it.

As for my recommended gun, neither of the two you mentioned. Those are vibration guns, and from my time using them they did nothing but make me feel like peeing. Having used them, I wouldn't go less than a Theragun (around $200 for a G3 at Kogan, right now). If you want to read up on the difference, search the difference between vibration and percussion massage.

        • Thanks Morien. I did one of those detailed X-ray (can’t remember the name) and seems like I have disc degenerative disease (mild luckily ). The physio I have seen are giving me exercises and just saying I need to keep mobile (which I do).
I can definitely do more exercises (especially stretching and strengthening)
The machine you suggest is a great buy especially as I can use latitude. I could use after gym too and family so I will probably buy.
But you are correct I should look into improving overall rather than “plaster” fix

          • @fozzie: The majority of adults have disc degeneration, yet many never go diagnosed because they don’t exhibit back pain. It’s quite interesting, but not really what you asked for.

Suffice to say, it’s good news. Check out the McGill Big 3 routine I linked. I was diagnosed with disc degeneration as well, and was prescribed pain killers, muscle relaxants, and advised to avoid exercise. Only the opposite worked. My personal experience was that that routine worked wonders (after one month I felt invincible), and I hope it does for you, too.

I use the Theragun on my hip flexors and my quads. It helps to relax them, but (the right) exercise was ultimately what fixed it.

            • @Morien: Thanks a bunch! I’m going to have a look to McGill routines and I bought the gun as just over $200 for a quality gun which my whole family can use seemed stupid to pass.

I’m off to read the website now. I’ll let you know how I go . Thanks again

              • @fozzie: Good luck, man. Back pain left unchecked sucks!

        • Hi, i am also looking for percussion massage gun.

Is this a percussion or vibration design massage gun? Thank you

            @spedohero: That’s vibration.

Percussion smacks you. To do that it needs to be able to drill the head into your muscle and then withdraw it enough that it is not in contact with your skin. Think me pulling my hand away before giving you a smack.

These vibration guns just shake. They don’t have enough power or range to move off of your body. Think me holding my hand to your skin before then trying to give you a smack. It’s just a push.

They are difficult to use on your back. A spikey ball and foam roller are much more effective.

Oh, and you would have had a CT scan, or MRI. Often the GP will request a CT scan, and then if something shows up a specialist will request MRI.
