Come-on dude, fast fashion has been an issue for the past 20 years.
As a company they do what they can to save money and deliver stuff up to the expectations.
Become a political activist if you feel this is your destiny.
      But if it'll cost $100 or $1 won't change these people's circumstances.

How about the fact people in YOUR country are suffering. Next to you, your neighbors , homeless and jobless?

You're being all high and mighty criticizing everyone while sitting at home being all privileged in your fancy modern age tech.

Please, do something to really help instead of this playpretend.

I'm having a second round at this reply…bite me.

Come-on dude, fast fashion has been an issue for the past 20 years.
        - Don't call me dude…are you 12? The fact its been an issue for 20 years doesn't make it right. Chronic obesity has been an issue for 20 years…also not cool.
As a company they do what they can to save money and deliver stuff up to the expectations.
        - i have honestly got nothing here. I know my ozbargain location for picking a 'value vs ethics' fight is circumspect (at best), you must surely be an actual board
member of Wesfarmers to say that and keep a straight face?

I'll call you whatever, considering all the slurs you've thrown my way, Dude.

          • Obesity , A choice.
          • Right, I'm a board member and not a sensible person, how about if India and China regulated their work-force, you know what would happen then? They'll collapse, they'll be irrelevant and unattaractive to western countries, Millions, billions of people will actually go ahead and starve to death - why? Where's the western money? Gone! all gone! they've gone back home to employ locals! :)
These countries are choosing to OFFER that possibility ,therefore it happens.
Whats your idea, I go ahead and purchase some wannabe handmade shoes for hundrends of dollars because it was made locally with decent pay?
You think Nike, Adidas, Or whatever other brand is doing GREAT? Right, delusional.

          • No you.

          • Nice comeback. You do realize most of the crap you're using is coming from these terrible countries from people who work with very little pay, right? You're really disconnected if you think everything else is coming from normal, humane places.

You don't need money to be a political activist - Speak a relevant message that interests the general public, you'll be hyped and promoted easily.

I can't boycott every company that sells shit that wasn't made in "good" places. I literally won't have any money left / anywhere to shop.

You do realize they grow and survive thanks to the west, right?…

Just stop, you have 0 arguments and you're downright disrespectful and childish.

The retail price of items is not directly correlated to how well the workers who made the items are treated and paid. There’s plenty of businesses selling things at high prices that exploit workers / pay very little for the item to be produced.

For sure there is a lot of cheap rubbish being sold by Kmart (and other retailers) where the conditions of the workers will be poor. Many items are so poorly designed and made that the human labour, material resources and energy to transport them is a complete waste - but someone still profited (probably not Kmart in this case) or tried to, which is why these types of items are still made. The buyers probably made a bad call on this product and Kmart is probably making a loss on it. But it could also be that they are clearing space for other products or it’s an end of season line and there’s not much stock left. Kmart regularly clears end of line products at very low prices, I’ve picked up things for $.50 - $2 that were originally at a much higher price point - were they any more ethical when they were more expensive?

Your points about ethical buying are completely valid, but I think you lost your audience when you started wishing discomfort on your fellow ozbargainers. From your voting and comments history you too appreciate a bargain and couldn’t possibly know the history of how it’s made and how much the workers are paid (especially the electronics). Maybe this is your last straw though and you’ll only be buying second hand and ethically produced products from now on 🤷‍♀️.

In the meantime these shoes have already been produced so it’s better they are bought at low cost or are given away than go in landfill. They might actually be decent and be useful to someone in need of new shoes e.g low income parent with a teenager with growing feet. Many hospitals, youth centres and homeless shelters also keep shoes (which they buy cheaply) for people who’ve had them destroyed/soiled or if they don’t have family to bring them in shoes for when they are commencing rehab. You might even find Kmart donates what is not sold and will possibly learn from their buying error if making a loss.

You've been a member for over 3 years and this is what you cast your first negative vote on??

What's funny is that there was legitimately a Big W $2 shoe post yesterday.

Get your inner Karen on and make sure you destroy every shoe in the aisle of every store.

    • Damn, some people have too much free time on their hands.

I've only thrown one slur your way, and it was correct and justified based on your response.

$2 for a pair of shoes is still a terrible result for all economies in the long term.

Cards on the table…where are you from? You are clearly a political activist in your own right who is also angry. We probably agree more than we disagree…?

    P.s. Sorry i called you a dick. Just like the Boomtown Rats, i don't like Mondays… :)

lol you realise these shoes weren't always $2 right?? It' won't be long term because these are clearance products.

  • Has anyone bought these shoes and can comment on whether or not they are worth buying?

In the meantime, is it possible that K-Mart paid more than $2 for them, and have just heavily discounted to turn them over?

      worth buying?

for $2 can you really go wrong?
