I know some people still buy top of the line shavers here from retail shops at full RRP. $286 is actually a good price for a branded 5-blade shaver with self-cleaning dock. The ongoing cost for the cleaning cartridge is probably the only factor that will set most people back from buying this. And amazon don't ship the cartridges to Australia either, so it will be almost double the price you'll be paying for it here.
Except there are plenty of sellers on ebay that will sell the cartridges at bargain prices as well (some cheaper than Amazon).

True, but there's still on-going costs to consider if you're planning on using the self-cleaning dock. I had the Phillips norelco cleaning dock for my Phillips shaver from a previous amazon deal, but I'm now washing the shaver manually with water since it wasn't really cost effective to be buying the cleaning solution every month or so.
Yeah I understand what your saying. IMO though the cost is minimal based on previous experience with the arc 4 series.
Id quickly rinse the shaver in water and use the cleaning dock as need be. That way a single cartridge would last a considerable amount of time whilst ensuring that the blades were clean, lubricated and sharp.
Ofcourse if, like some, you simply shave and then only use the cleaning dock and on a daily basis, the cartridges will run out a lot faster.
In all honesty you would not "need" the dock(assuming youd be happy rinsing and recharging via cable) and the arc 5's do have a model without the dock. However at this price its substantially cheaper than that and includes the dock which is an added bonus.

just buy a cheap remington(or whatever brand) hair shaver..

and if u need a closer shave get some blades..
mate you clearly havent used one of these.
there is no comparison between this unit and anything else on the market. Infact if you figure in the extra costs with a blade shaver ie blades, cream, etc it works out more expensive on a yearly basis.
if u buy the old style barber razor
you won't need to buy any blades..
And I doub it works out more expensive

For anyone considering purchasing these remember do not buy the cartridges in an Oz retail store!
Buy it online eg ebay, amazon and in bulk and a full year's worth of cartridges(2 years if you just rinse it first) would then amount to $63-$70 or so delivered ie ~$6 a cartridge versus the rip off pricing of $20 a cartridge here!
