Is The Netgear Orbi RBK12 Wi-Fi Mesh System Any Good?

Hi everyone,

this afternoon I went into Officeworks to buy a mouse when I came across the Netgear Orbi RBK12 AC1200 on the clearance table for $77.25 (Original $329 took that with a grain of salt). Part of me wondered why it was so cheap (the box was sealed but maybe it was a return and Officeworks reshrinkwrapped it), however, I already wanted to buy a Wi-Fi mesh since the master bedroom has poor Wi-Fi and drops out. After some quick researching, it seemed better than the Tenda MW3 I was going to buy so I bit the bullet and bought it.

I asked one of the staff whether I could refund this and she said yes as long as it hasn't been opened so now I want to thoroughly research it before I open and use it.

So with that being said what are your thoughts on Netgear Orbi RBK12? Am I going to encounter any issues with not achieving acceptable speeds, dropouts, it dying in 2 years time etc or is this a decent mesh system?

I use NBN 50 but have been currently upgraded to NBN 250 for 6 months.

Looking forward to seeing whether this deal was too good to be true

Thanks.

Street price is around $250 so definitely a good deal still.

For that price just give it a crack. It will be fine.

TPG free upgrade? I swear mine has been slower since…

    • Yep
Happened to me with my old NetComm wireless router. Was fixed when I got a new one. Amazing speeds just the master bedroom thats letting the experience down.

It might also be your router which replacing it should fix. If you're using FTTP then the TP-Link AX20 is a router than frequently gets recommended on this site.

      • Lol I got that email for my parents house, said it could go up to 4x faster (FTTP) checked yesterday and it was still bouncing around 44-60's 🙄

Sell it on ebay at a profit if it's not suitable for your needs - you got a good deal considering street price - https://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=RBK12+&spos=3

    • Hmmm I was thinking of that too. I'll see whether this mesh works or not. Reading some Amazon reviews I couple of people found it painful to setup.

I don't think the officeworks stock check site works any longer
